Help with equipment rack design

I'm pondering building a rack for my components. It will be hardwood, furniture quality, I hope, flattering the room. Generally, I'm thinking single-bay width, and shelving for, say, five components. So, I'd estimate a couple feet wide, maybe less, and four feet tall, maybe less.
