Help me for connection

I'm confusing about parallel and serial connection. I have 2 pairs of speakers and want to connect them to amplifier. If I connect all speakers to binding posts of amplifier then what is it ? Parallel or serial connect ? If I connect a pair of speakers to amplifier and then connect the other pair to the first pair then what is that ? Which one is better ? And does amplifier see any difference of impedance of speakers between parallel or serial connnect ? My speakers are 4 Ohm load pair and 6 Ohm for the another. And where can I find more information about that ? Thank you very much guys.....

IMO, they are always Parallel. you can't connect them in serial.

the combined impdence = 4x6/(4+6) = 2.4 Ohm

Abe is wrong; you can connect them in series and then you will have a 10-ohm load per side. It will be safer for the amplifier, but will not play as loud. In the series connection you would connect the positive amp terminal to a positive speaker terminal then the negative terminal of that speaker to the positive of the second speaker; then run the negative of the second speaker back to the negative amp terminal. This is probably best done with identical speaker pairs if they are being used in the same room. If you have two pairs of different speakers (and you do) and the efficiency of the respective pairs differs (likely) one pair will play louder than the other no matter which way you hook them up...
