"The few businesses that are still open are so busy..." I am not sure about your area, but I have seen types of businesses being closed, not individual stores. For example, grocery stores stay open, gyms close. In my observations, it was not "only this particular grocery store can stay open". It may be different in different locations, for all I know. No crowds in grocery stores I have seen. In fact, they limit the number of customers at any given time. |
"Surely by now the increasing number of of first hand testimonies by worldwide medical professionals should be giving some of us cause to think...We should be grateful that these brave doctors are willing to stand up and speak their minds. They have little to gain and plenty to lose." Start thinking, finally. You have little to gain and not much to lose. "In another time and place we might even call them freedom fighters."
They may not care what you call them. They just want to go for dinner in peace. |
"Creative writing and the Internet"...

three_easy_payments, I am relatively familiar with Sweden, but thought it was interesting that one poster mentions elected officials and the other one shows the proof by linking to the King of Sweden. This one might have been better aligned with intentions...
Swedish PM says officials misjudged power of Covid resurgence | World news | The Guardian
While we are at that, to clarify this innocent confusion, King is not an elected official in Sweden. |
"Not fake news, real words coming from real elected officials. Seriously?....that’s the gold standard example you really wanted to use @cd318 ???? Sweden?"
"Sweden's King Carl XVI Gustaf says country's coronavirus response 'failed'"
Is Sweden's king an elected official? |
"They’re now talking about Covid mutating. If it actually existed in the first place that is." It is highly unlikely that COVID would mutate. Diseases (that is what D in COVID stands for) usually do not mutate. Viruses, on the other hand... They have existed, COVID and viruses, that is. |
I think that rift between Mick Jagger and Keith Richards in the 1980s counted as one of the world wars. I am not sure about the remaining eight. |
I am not sure what Malaria has to do with all of this, but it may not be the perfect example of diseases that are less common these days because of Coronavirus pandemic.
The mode of transmission of Malaria is hardly affected by the measures we are using against Coronavirus (masks, hand hygiene, social distancing around two meter). These measures may not prevent Malaria, save for social distancing for which two meter may not be enough as long as the mosquito is not severely crippled. |
"My point is that if only 5 Americans get malaria each year..." More than 5 people in the U.S.A. get Malaria each year. I think you are talking about "die from Malaria". |
"...lower grade medical systems, like Germany..." What does "lower grade" mean in this case? |
"Seriously wondering how long even the larger hospitals are going to be able to continue to exist at such LOW LEVELS! Your ignorance is astounding. Hospitals routinely operate at 80 to over 100%, especially ICU which are very expensive. Last thing you want is an empty bed in an ICU. Well, a lot of them are empty." To millercarbon’s credit, he did get a thing right. Not completely, though. Hospitals are struggling financially and it is not because of empty ICU beds. Those beds are not that empty and are, in fact, quite full in some localities. Hospitals are struggling because the money lifeline, elective surgeries and other procedures, had to be postponed due to, in many places, overwhelming number of COVID-19 patients who take resources, staff, and space in addition to some of the staff getting sick and being out of commission for a while. That is what reimbursement for taking care of COVID-19 patients is hoping to cover. |
millercarbon,
"So when these people would show up with the flu I would smartly say well its probably a different strain or its probably too soon, in other words feed them the party line."
It was not within the scope of your job to give out medical opinions or advice. It is not only wrong and potentially dangerous behavior, but it may be grounds for dismissal. Practicing medicine without a license is frowned upon by authorities and should have been frowned upon by your superiors. Do not do it. You may harm someone. |
"There is by the way no wave." At least the source of this information is experienced... "Now being an x-ray tech I don’t see nearly as many patients as the RNs and MAs." |
|
"Thousands of doctors are being censored worldwide from speaking out against Covid or the vaccine." Instead of speaking, they should have volunteered to help out. Perspective might have been different. |
|
"...so-called pandemic..." ...says the man who got infected at the same time as the man in Germany, Russia, India, Australia, South Africa, Argentina, and Hawaii. Sporadic localized infections, one might say. It is getting weirder and weirder. |
"Creative writing and the Internet" should be a required course for all "Semi-liberal arts" degrees" (OP)

Why would anyone use mortality tables for following current events? |
"There is no pandemic, because there are no excess deaths." Since when does the definiton of pandemic require excess deaths? |
"How can you worry too much about a virus that has a 99.4% cure rate." You cannot worry too much. Check out your local ICU, or a "long-term COVID clinic". |
"This pandemic will kill more people with the attempted restraints than the actual virus. Just wait." How long? |
