Has anyone purchased a Mitsubishi big screen TV?

I'm considering purchasing a Mitsubishi Platinum or Platinum Plus 55" or 65" rear projection TV(model #WS55809, #WS65809, or #WS65819). What is the picture and sound like compared to competition? Any service problems? Where could I get the best deal? Any others I should seriously consider?

The Mitsubishi television are wonderful! The picture is wonderful, completely HD ready, you can't go wrong.
I bought my TV as a floor model from the GoodGuys here in SF. Part of my negotiating was a 7 year in home warranty, which includes all the calbrating one's heart desires.

WS65809, $2,200 out the door, with the 7 year home warranty!

Tought to beat.

There are advantages/disadvantages with both. If you fix the red push on the Mitsu (cheap easy fix) the pic is great. You might check the more video-based forums for more info than you could possibly want or use ;-) Email me for suggested sites.
Last year purchased a silver series Mitsubishi 50 in. Had a 40 inch prior for 12 years. Super reliable and great picture. No maintenance calls ever. My daughter still has it. I have checked out everything on the market and this is the best. My brother has a 10K Sony projection with 10 ft screen and my wife and I prefer the picture and sharpness of the Mitsi. Several friends were in the market and after seeing ours bought similar units. For the money it is a great bridge system until HDTV gets sorted out and becomes affordable.
I have a toshiba 57HX81 (widescreen HD-capable RPTV). It's toshiba's top of the line. As far as how it compares to other TV's, the following statments seem to be pretty widely accepted opinions:

1. The Mits platinum and platinum plus looks as good as the toshiba with DVD and HD once the red push problem is corrected. Toshiba looks better out of the box.

2. The Mits line doubler however is not up to the standard of the toshiba which causes poor NTSC pictures with cable and/or satialite. (I don't think the toshiba's is great either)

3. The Mits Diamond series is better than the toshiba and on par with the Pioneer Elite. This series is expensive though.

Also, the Mits has upgradability through the "promise module" which guarentees it against becomming obselete through a $1000 firewire input module. This is a subject that has been hotly debated for atleast a year now and the truth is still yet to be determined.

If I had to do it all over again, I would buy the standard Pioneer. It's as good as the toshiba if not better, construction quality is top notch, has a better looking cabinet, and is significantly smaller in overall size. It's supposed to share alot of the parts as last years Elite.

All these TVs benefit from getting them ISF calibrated.

IMO, there are only 3 brands to consider: Toshiba, Mitsubishi, and Pioneer. My money went to the Toshiba, but today would go to the Pioneer non-Elite series.
