Goldmund Mimesis 27

I found a used Mimesis 27 preamp at a local store. I took it home on a trial and it does quite a few things nicely but it seems a little bright and has some male voices seem a little off. I can't find much information on it. The local store has it priced about the same as a used Audio Research ls27. Anybody know much about it? What are/were its competitors at the time?
