The ALTAIR G1 is a truly versatile device with many functions. However, performance is impressive. The headphone out in particular is what I heard using a pair of Beyerdynamic headphones.
Overall the sound signature is neat and well-defined. Bass frequencies in particular are accurate and details in the music flow organically. Midrange is a bit forward sounding, but that is not a bad thing. Treble is nice and tame...not overdone or too bright.
For reference sake, the best I have ever heard (for professional audio work) is the TAD DA1000.
