Focal trio 11 be

Anyone heard these in a normal home type setting? Man they intrigue me to no end. With a nice dac and a well matched pre amp I’m wondering how they would do as a main speaker.

I have a set of Focal Twin6 Be in a non treated room. They get plenty loud, crystal clear, but missing that smooth Hifi sound. Mids are clinical/accurate but not room filling like your typical Hifi floor standers. Real lows are missing, added a $1,200 SVS SB3000 subwoofer. I think I made a mistake. Paid $4,600 for the pair. Custom made XLR cables. Wondering what I could have gotten for that money in the Hifi world? I thought like you thinking I could save money on expensive amps/preamps. There is a reason they are called Studio Speakers.

A little of everything. I am a gigging musician so I have Pro level PA/Subwoofers.

First system Infinity Kappa9s/Velodyne Sub, current system Golden Ear Triton Two+

Golden Ear speakers cost $4,500 a pair running with an inexpensive $500 Sony Receiver. Total price very similar to the Focal Twin System. NO comparison, the Golden Ear can fill my very large living room with lush midrange Hifi sound and bass response that comes close to a dedicated subwoofer. This is the perfect example of the difference between a typical Audiophile Hifi and an excellent mid field Studio Monitor.

Are you going to put the Focals up for sale or still trying to make them work?

I would never sell them. They work fine as a secondary system.  When I'm in the mood for a more intimate focused sound compared to a Golden Ear type speaker that fills a huge space with three dimensional sound. Focals even though they get very loud they work best in a space like a large bedroom or small den.
