Focal Maestro 3 vs Scala Evo

Looking at possibly trading in my Maestro 3 for a pr of Scala EVO’s. The main reason for this is I think the Scala’s would work better in my medium size room and the sonic improvements the EVO’s bring to the table. I my only concern is: will I lose anything besides the size and impact the Maestro has over the Scala’s in bass and presence? Also, is there a big step up in performance with the EVO’s upgrades over the Utopia 3 to justify the move?
I would like to hear from anybody that has actually heard the EVO’s and compared them to the Utopia 3. Please don’t comment on any other speakers you feel are better than the Focal’s. This thread is Focal VS Focal.

Thanks Mike

How big is your room? I have Scala + 2 REL S510 subs in a 20x20x9 cu ft family room (but opens in the back to foyer / living room that is another 20 ft long) & the Scala is more than sufficient.

Frankly (& this is IMHO only): most of the Utopia quality is due to the construction style (different cabinets for different drivers) and materials used.

Scala V1 vs V2 vs EVO - make a small difference (regardless of what the marketing material or its audiophile followers say) - small tweaks but the rebranding was essential for bumping up the speaker price from around $26k to around $55k. As, when they came out with this speaker, they realized that they underpriced it relative to the competition. Blasphemous, yes, but true.

I went to buy the Scala Evo. But, the dealer also had a pair of Scala V1 for sale (via trade-in). He was nice enough to have the V1 vs EVO side by side for me to audition so I could check out the difference.

Also: was reading a few of your past posts and was surprised that your Maestro (which, I’ve heard, needs ample current) was run by Luxman amps (the M900U?).

For my Scala, I found great benefit when I moved to the powerful Hegel H30 (320k microfarad capacitance!).
