Eminent Technology ET-2 Tonearm Owners

Where are you? What mods have you done ?

I have been using these ET2's for over 9 years now.
I am still figuring them out and learning from them. They can be modified in so many ways. Bruce Thigpen laid down the GENIUS behind this tonearm over 20 years ago. Some of you have owned them for over 20 years !

Tell us your secrets.

New owners – what questions do you have ?

We may even be able to coax Bruce to post here. :^)

There are so many modifications that can be done.

Dressing of the wire with this arm is critical to get optimum sonics along with proper counterweight setup.

Let me start it off.

Please tell us what you have found to be the best wire for the ET-2 tonearm ? One that is pliable/doesn’t crink or curl. Whats the best way of dressing it so it doesn’t impact the arm. Through the spindle - Over the manifold - Below manifold ? What have you come up with ?

We probably don't know 20% of the variables in audio and most likely never will.
I had occasion few years ago to watch one of the acknowledged
best symphony space designers work on a multi-million upgrade to a hall, he said at the end of the day its cut and paste.
Back in the 70's I worked for a big dealer who had every known MM cart known to man in stock.Thousands of them.
The only thing that could beat an Acutex was probably the best MM cart ever made ,the Empire EDR-9 .
A 420 cost him about 40 bucks as I recall. But he bought hundreds at a time.
I meant he ordered about 500 Acutex at a time , all models.
With about 3-4 million dollars worth of stock in warehouse at any given time 12K was chicken feed. Last year I worked for him did about 35 million in audio, Big Jap companies were giving him 20% off their best-best- price with 6 months to pay.
CtO517, couldn't agree more, The 2 speakers I mainly use both have sloped fronts , time alignment , as its often referred to.
Both the Meadowlarks and Gallos have only 1 capacitor to protect the tweeter .
When you get into complex crossovers IMO it can be done but the cure is usually worse that the disease .
Frogman, good to know you consider rhythm the fundamental as I came to the that conclusion myself when I started to listen seriously to jazz.
Why then do so many prominent jazz artists ,vocal and instrumental, seem unable or unwilling to keep time ?
Frogman, as what you said is basically what I thought I agree with you 110%-LOL.
All jokes aside, it is amazing what you can learn through
osmosis .

Can you or anyone name another tonearm that can do ,at least to some degree, what the ET-2 does ? At my age the
fiddle factor for the ET-2 is beyond me .
Thanks Dover, valuable info !
As the floor of my small condo is also the 3 feet thick concrete roof of the underground parking my problem is spikes on speakers .
I was in Needle Doctor a while back whilst a Rega Exact MM
was playing classical in a most elegant and refined manner. .
vpi, I’m a lot older than you and been around a lot of jets as well.
I know my hearing is way down but the brain compensates very well if it knows losing music would affect your overall stasis significantly .
Nuro science had advanced a thousand fold on stuff like this with ground-breaking research from Oxbridge in UK .

Glad I never saw an ET-2 ,I’d really be nuts . Of course ET-2 really means Electronic Technician Second Class ,USN .
Its not LIKE we can still can, its we really can !
ET-2 is a proud title for any man .
