Electrocompaniet ECD-1 v. North Star m192 mk2
I was wondering if anyone has compared these two DACs (or the m192 mkl in place of the mk2)? I have recently had the chance to do so, and was somewhat surprised to find myself leaning toward the north star. It's not that I did not like the ECD-1, but I found it a bit polite with a bit of roll off. To be sure, it is a musical and smooth DAC, but not quite the revelation I expected.
Conversely, I find the north star to be considerably more forward, but still musical with a slightly larger soundstage. Further, it seems to hit a bit harder, with more bass impact. More resolving than the ECD-1, but perhaps not as lush.
I'd be interested in whether others' opinions.
