DIY Speaker Upgrade?

Hopefully this is the right place to ask the questions and the right place to get the answers. Here goes. I have (2) Polk Audio RTA 11TL loudspeakers (1990) and was wondering if it would be worthwhile to replace the speaker components with some newer ones. Each speaker has one 1" (25 mm) dome tweeter, two 6 1/2" (165 mm) bass-midrange drivers, and two 8" (203 mm) woofer drivers. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated of course! It sure would be cool to be able to upgrade and use these speakers again.

If you plan to get some other speakers to listen to, you can use these old ones to experement with. It can be interesting and relatively inexpensive, but will take time.

Keep one speaker stock, and work on the other one. This cuts costs in half, and gives you something to compare against so you know if things are getting better or worse. If you end up with something that you like, then fix the other speaker the same way.
