DirectStream: Bridge or USB connection?

Hi all,

I'm completely new to computer-based audio. I just bought a DirectStream, and I'm wondering if we get better sound by using the bridge or by connecting the unit directly to a computer using a good USB cable?

Thanks in advance,

That must mean better than because the bridge don't do USB.  And for what they want for it you can get a Rasp Pi, iFi Elite power and  a Matrix DDC that you can play USB and take with you.

.

I have a Directstream DAC w/Bridge II.  I prefer USB over the bridge connection.

Computers are for ripping, editing and tagging.

And bad sound.

Bridges (players) are for playing, especially local. Paul don't believe in that.

However good the Bridge is, I don't believe it will beat a direct hardwired connection.
Are you familiar with the Bridge? You are connecting to the computer via ethernet.

According to Ted Smith and reviews, DirectStream is agnostic to inputs and SHOULD sound the same. With PWD MKII, bridge was very unstable requiring constant reboots but very stable with DirectStream. My brother has DirectStream with bridge for many many months and hasn't required one reboot yet.

With Bridge, you don't need a computer in your system but an ethernet connection to your router or a wireless ethernet hub and then run DLNA server on a computer. Logitech Media Server, Miniserver, JRiver ... With JRiver, you can play DSD files. Personally I prefer Logitech Media Server when I had PWD MKII w/bridge.

Not sure if you already bought the bridge but PS Audio is developing a new bridge. Check PS Audio Forum for more info.
I'm pretty sure it will be connecting to the computer via USB.

Congrats on your purchase. The DirectStream is an amazing DAC. It has way more resolution than any other DAC I've tried as well as a detailed but not etched or fatiguing presentation. Make sure the Pike's Peak firmware is installed.
