Differences Between Folded Horn Speakers and Transmission Line Speakers

I've been looking at various DIY speaker builds and came across a folder horn speaker and I've also seen transmission line speakers. I've tried to google the differences in the two, as they look similar, but I suspect that there are differences. The only visual difference that I've noticed (I've only seen one folded horn, so the comparison pool is very small) is that the folded horn seem to have a larger opening than the transmission line speakers. Maybe it's just the one speaker that I saw, so I don't know that would always be the case. I'm hoping someone on the forum is much more knowledgeable about these things than I am.

Actually John Wright designed the IMF transmission lines that Bud was initially involved with. He was more involved with the Fried speakers although it's not clear to me how much.

The conversation has continued to stir my curiosity about these two types of speakers. I think I will start with the folded horn. I like floor standing towers. The only design that I have seen that I like thus far is this Fostex BK-12m at Madisound (Fostex BK-12m). I wouldn't want to go with a footprint much larger than that. I'll probably go with upgraded drivers. At this point I'm not sure when I'm going to get around to it, but I'm determined to do it. Once I do I'll revive this thread and post photos of the results. After that I'll find a transmission line design that I like and will then tackle that. yes
