Decording mode for TV

As a newbie I'm a little overwhelemed by some of this but am enjoying learning. I'm trying to get a handle on dolby digital decording modes and the differences. I have a Denon Avr-1082, can anyone advise what the right mode for watching tv is?
I've already discovered I like the "widescreen" format for movie viewing, gives lively sound.
