deciding between shanling cd3000 and cambridge 840

I just listened to the shanling cd3000 and cambridge 840c and they are both amazing players (mind blowing experience). I enjoyed the shanling more but these players are out of my budget and am wondering if any one has any recommendations for a cdp like the shanling for less (500-1000). Also considering mod players also and wondering if it just better to get something cheaper and upgrade later. Sorry for all the questions but any help would be much appreciated

Thanks

The top of the line NAD is absolutely superb. I think you can find it easily for $599. Blows away any Cambridge product I've heard.

The Shanling is a step up again. I've seen it for $995 and it's generally availabvle for $12-1300.
The Music Hall CD25.2 will get you 95% of the way for only $600. It's steroephile class B rated with excellent performance all around. It has great bass extension, plenty of detail, and looks decent.

You are never going to get $1600 performance for $500, but as far as the lower priced players, the CD25.2 is a bargain. I used to have one, and I'm considering buying another. Good luck!
