Thanks Toetapaudio. Charles, fair enough. That’s why I shared what my others components are so you can get an idea of my starting point & preferences. Between us I was perfectly happy with V1… with V2 I am just happier 😁
To put things in perspective, if you have a pair of Nenuphars the single biggest upgrade you can do is to add their active Sub 12’’ (or two if your room is larger than 50sqm). Srajan has spent a ton of pixels on the many advantages of such a combo, I can witness that the impact on SQ is an order of magnitude higher than the difference between V2 and V1

V2 drivers for my Nenuphars Monitors (coupled with a Sub 12) arrived 10 days ago. Run them 24/7 for a week, then started listening seriously. V2 is a more refined version of the original F10neo drivers: it does not lose anything (the mid-range magic is fully there), sound is thicker across the entire spectrum (more presence / more meat around all bones) which increases the sense of naturalness & flow. I did not have to tweak my system in any way (MU1-Tambaqui-Icon4se-Amp23r or SIT3, LessLoss cabling), the V2s are here to stay!

No change, still amazing ☺️
V2 it’s a welcome evolution (no revolution). As I write this I am listening to Grant Green’s Idle Moments masterpiece. With the V1 the Gibson and the saxophone edged on the shiny/dominant side creating a sense of imbalance vis a vis the other instruments. The V2 adds meat to the bones of the bass / drums / cymbals whilst making the Gibson/sax sound more truthful (at least to my ears). The overall balance and listening pleasure goes up one to two notches depending on the piece of music. The most impressive difference I’ve listened to date has been on Willem De Vriend’s Beethoven 7th (DSD file played off the MU1 ssd). The V1 was a bit too bright and did not reproduce accurately the dark/grave strings base (I did know it was there by listening thru my Susvara’s). Spent months trying to tweak my system to no avail. V2 got everything in the right place without losing an inch of the Nenuphars’ mid-range magic.

V1 and V2 back and forth. It takes 2 people only a few minutes to change the drivers. And yes, it’s my personal judgment 😎
Btw, when prompted, Srajan preferred the V2 (scroll down few letters till you find the one on Nenuphars V2)

Yes 10 inch drivers.
To change drivers: remove 4 bolts for the existing driver, remove it from the cabinet, unplug the wires (its a plug), then reverse the process for installing the new driver. Drivers are heavy, you need someone to help. I’d say less than 10’ to upgrade both speakers.

Great speakers & great post. I exchanged my Nenuphars for a pair of Nenuphars monitors 10” + 1 Cube Audio Sub 12” (placed in the center, facing the listening position). To make things sweeter (thanks to Srajan) I got an Icon passive preamp with an active crossover (40hz high pass for the monitors, full range for the Sub which already has a very effective DSP). It’s a massive upgrade: bass is to die for (deep, elegant, no blooming) but as surprisingly the medium/highs have got a new life (more defined, larger soundstage, extraordinary separation). Srajan says this is due to the much easier job the mains amp has + less heating of the speaker coils. System: Grimm MU1 + Mola Mola Tambaqui + SIT3 / Bakoon amp13r / VR L2iSE with TAK300B I am reducing my large amplifiers stock and am selling my 1-year old VR L2iSE with dac/phono (9 years warranty left) |
Thanks Riaa. It’s on his way... 🎶 My Sound|Kaos Vox3a are lined up for the Valvet, will also try it on the Nenuphars and revert with thoughts. |
I love what the VR does to the sound (particularly with the TAK300B valves) but now that my Nenuphars + subwoofer setup needs an active crossover to work at its best I tend to use the Icon. Bakoon vs SIT3 ... for me it’s like comparing a great bottle of Barbaresco vs Bourgogne. The Bakoon is faster, fizzier, more joyful. The SIT3 is more studious, lush with a great legato between the notes. I like to alternate depending on mood. I will receive the Valvet E2se later this week and will revert with impressions

@stephendunn Keen to try your resistor solution for the VR L2iSE. Can you pls share model of resistor Vinnie recommended, how to install, any precautions etc. If you could add a photo that would be great. Thx! |
Thank you Stephen. I love the Elrog tubes but do most of my VR listening with the TAK300B (probably due to system tuning/preference). Keep us posted on your Linlai experience... The VR is amazing at driving my Lawrence Audio Double Bass or Albedo Aptica but for the Nenuphars my poison of choice is the SIT3 or the Bakoon. Look forward to experiment with the resistors on ...

The Valvet E2se arrived last night. It’s still in early run-in mode but it’s potential with the Nenuphars it’s clear and exciting. Despite it’s 12W/8ohms rating it punches above its weight and features quite a stunning ‘presence’, reminding me the type of drive & authority that the likes of the Ypsilon Phaeton are capable of. More in a couple of weeks after proper run-in but I thought you’d appreciate the update. |
@stephendunn
Good man, welcome to Enleum. Stunning amp and extraordinary pairing with the Nenuphars. Your next move should be to try the cube audio Sub 12’’ (I use one only in a 36sqm room, positioned ~80cm closer to the listening position to offset the DSP time lag, connected via the high line inputs to the Enleum. This is probably the most significant upgrade I have experienced in a long while, more than any changes in streamer/dac (I am a happy owner of Grimm MU1 and Mola Mola Tambaqui)… deeper/cleaner bass, increased soundstage and transparency, more realistic timbres. Simply gorgeous.

A typo indeed. V2 covers a wider frequency range (lower & higher with a slightly more balanced mid-range if you ask me). I don’t have a lot of direct experience of the new bass extension as I use Cube’s V2 10’’ monitors and complement with their Sub12’’
