Really interesting stuff. My omega 4.5” single drivers - cones w/surrounds weigh in at 1.5 grams. Not sure how that compares to the Nenuphars, but I imagine they are also extremely light. Whenever I audition an amp with a higher dampening, it seems to restrain the lightweight driver.
I just purchased a dht 45 set, which I am super excited to hear with my speakers.
would love to hear the Nenuphars one day. When I listen to quality speakers with crossovers, I can’t get back to those full range efficient speaks quick enough 😉
^ They certainly take a long time to deliver. Hopefully I won’t have any service needs. Do love the way they sound!
david this is a great thread! i get immense satisfaction from my omega speakers and decware set amp. i can only imagine what going up the the single-driver chain must be like. at least i can grasp the reality (:
i have been following this thread because of my love for single driver speakers but mostly just envy. with that said, i tried a handful of amps with my omega loudspeakers and the most satisfying pairing I've found is with LTA. i certainly not have reached into the stratosphere $$$ of SET amps, so i can't can't speak to those, but the LTA is simply magical as noted above.
^ thank you. Perhaps one of these days but in the meantime I am smitten with my little omega speakers 😊
I have an Alan Eaton 45 albeit with Omega Speakers. It's a wonderfully musical amp. Those transformers are magical. The SRPP stage is great as it has lots of low impedance "grunt" to drive triode finals. A very dynamic 1.5 watts! I like the RCA 6sn7. They are certainly more chill sounding than VT-231. Hitachi 6sn7gtb are really good too. I use shoulder, globes, and EML - I like them all. I can see why a lot of people would gravitate to the EML as it sounds like a more powerful amp. Down the road consider swapping the coupling caps, volume pots, and removing the little .1 caps coming off the RCA. They aren't necessary unless you have noisy sources. It sounds very nice in stock form but the mods bump the fidelity up a notch or two.
no worries on the RCA, they are a little more bland, but in a good way.
Definitely shoot us your impressions. I adore my little amp!
I figured the Alan Eaton would work well w Cubes but this certainly has me thinking. I use Omega's, the cheap mans Cube? It is a very musical combo w great synergy. It is the only amp that made me, dare I say, pack up the Decware. I was worried about the 91db efficiency - I guess this is not the case 😃
