For audio components, the surface they are placed on can impact sound quality. For example, I have a temperated glass desk that can support over 250 pounds on each side. 

Audio racks are good too, but if everything runs in Class A, I've always liked being able to give my amplifiers tons of breathing room so they can effectively dissipate heat.from their vent cutouts.
