I apologize in advance, I broke the rules today and had Thai food rather than tacos.

Take audio advice from respected audio professionals. Take medical advice from respected medical professionals. Exchange thoughts and ideas with anyone you choose. Avoid drawing too many conclusions without a proper data set. Then, be careful whether you are qualified to analyze the data to draw conclusions. I was joking around with an esteemed retired medical/science professional who founded one of the largest biotech companies in the world decades ago. He smiled and said to me, “be careful with your data when analyzing anything, I used to tell my research scientists that 100% of those persons who die each day once breathed oxygen. Is the breathing of oxygen correlated to their demise?” Everyone just relax. People have their minds made up by now, right or wrong. Banging heads about science on an audio site may not be the definition of insanity, but it is next to it in the dictionary for those willing and able to read. To those out there convinced of the existence of a vast conspiracy against them, who are certain that (fill in the blank) are conspiring to infect/keep you down/et al its highly likely you are not significant enough in the whole scheme of things to spend the energy necessary to create such a conspiracy. But hey, the fallout shelter builder would likely beg to differ. |
@mahgister But which one audio professionals? Engineers ? which one of the many engineering fields? reviewers ? musicians ? acoustician? psycho acoustician? experimented audiophiles ?Pick the one (or more) who you believe answers your query to your satisfaction. That goes for anything: medical, audio, lawncare...I am unemotional about who you or others choose to trust. You will make the right decision for you. Now, the right decision doesn't mean 100% positive outcomes, it just means that you made an honest assessment and can live with the consequences. «Take also the good seeds where they had fallen»-Groucho Marx reading Bible....🤓 This is a cute quote that I'm reasonably certain never happened...Groucho was a practicing Jew. If you think that this mass of convergent greed did not exist , quit even reading audio forum, you will not be able to figure it out by yourself anyway....😁😊 LOL...I'm not even certain how to respond. Even though I believe I'm quite objective, I'm reasonably certain that you and I will not be able to find middle ground. With that said, I believe you are giving the "greed conspiracy" way too much credit. Greed didn't start 20 months ago, I'm fairly certain that those who are admittedly greedy are far too fragmented to have organized with a common goal. Best wishes with your journey. |
@tomic601 You are correct. I’m not saying I think that certain people aren’t making catastrophically stupid decisions with their health and yours/mine, I’m just saying nothing I can possibly say on an Audiogon forum is going to change it. I’m reasonably certain that a person who would choose a path different from my own also believes/disbelieves in cables/fuses/magic-contact-KY-jelly on their interconnects than the position I take on same. I’m not saying the position I take on a given subject is absolutely right, its just my position...I might be wrong but I can live with the outcome. Others seem to expend alot of energy trying to convince others they are correct, I just wish they would finish cutting my lawn before doing so. LOL. The thing that puzzles me the most is when a seemingly intelligent person begins their quest on anything with an answer before posing the question. I miss the days where all we argued about on Audiogon was whether vinyl was better than digital or that tubes are better than solid state. Best.... |
@millercarbon https://theexpose.uk/2021/09/30/deaths-among-teenagers-have-increased-by-47-percent-since-covid-vacc... You seem like a passionate and knowledgeable person on many subjects. You and I have bantered back and forth on a variety of topics and it has been typically fun. Why though would you post links to clearly questionable data when its actually fine to just disagree? You are better than that. Frankly, as I've said earlier, the pro-crowd and the anti-crowd have their minds made up already. Daily Expose is a U.K.-focused conspiracy site created in November of last year, and since its establishment, it has promoted a standard portfolio of COVID-denialist, anti-vaxxer, and Great Reset myths framed as breaking news. |
@mahgister I could care less about how much anyone’s system costs or how it sounds. That is their business. I’m sure it sounds wonderful. Its just that the photos of your room bears a striking resemblance to the apartment in which Mel Gibson’s character lived in the movie "Conspiracy Theory". The irony doesn’t escape anyone remotely objective. My apologies if you mistook my comments as somehow derogatory economically. |
@millercarbon You know full well that you linked to a site that is questionable. You are certainly intelligent and IIRC you work in healthcare. My only point is that you don't have to link to BS websites to form your opinion. Its ok for you to choose to agree or disagree with any position from reputable websites. I will repeat, I could care less if someone has taken the vaccine or not. I could care less if someone voted, let alone for who. I simply can't for the life of me understand why all the posting of non-Audiogon related topics drives so many to the brink. |
@rixthetrick I stopped wringing my hands years ago about things I couldn't control. I did some quick analysis in the early 1980's and figured I could either worry about inflation, interest rates, the national debt and the accompanying taxes OR I could be productive and happy in the pursuit of trying to earn it faster than they could spend it. Whether I have or not remains to be seen but it has been alot more fun and pretty easy and low stress. No bitterness, no conflict, almost a zen kindofa thing. Others get to choose how they live their limited days here...I choose mine. I was never much for apocalyptic BS at church or in life and I've made it a point over the years not to hire those who dwell on it. Love my work, love my music, love my wife...life is good. |
@mahgister Its going to be ok, take a deep breath. Are you doing those things you can to secure your financial future, bring joy to others and to bring joy to yourself? Are you getting outdoors and enjoying some physical activity? Are you eating well? You are going to be fine if you are doing the things I mention above. Enjoy life...its a gift. |
Woke up this morning to read some of these latest posts. At first I thought some of it was tongue in cheek, only to continue reading. In recognition that many of you who believe these conspiracy theories are sincere, what are you doing to improve your life, outlook and attitude? For those you care about? Dwelling on things, real or imagined, that you can do absolutely nothing about what are you doing to enrich your life and for those you care about? I’m at a loss as to why anyone would intentionally choose to focus on perceived misery with such tenacity. |
@isochronism You posted: jond, Daniel 2;43 KJV Bible. Try that for starters. Good Luck Just curious what a passage from a book of collected works has to do with audio? What you refer to above was from an apocalyptic vision recorded some 2,200 years ago, which is included in something commonly referred to as “The Old Testament”. Its is certainly personal choice what any person takes literally. The credibility of that person is open for interpretation by others. No offense is intended whatsoever, only hoping to inject a little levity. For those who take those collected works literally, I pose a few questions below which were originally posed to Dr. Laura Schlesinger by a UVA professor when she took an inflexible stand on “the written word”. 1. Leviticus 25:44 states that I may possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighbouring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify? Why can’t I own Canadians? 2. I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her? 3. I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of Menstrual uncleanliness - Lev.15: 19-24. The problem is how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offence. 4. When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odour for the Lord - Lev.1:9. The problem is my neighbours. They claim the odour is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them? 5. I have a neighbour who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself, or should I ask the police to do it? 6. A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an abomination, Lev. 11:10, it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don’t agree. Can you settle this? Are there ’degrees’ of abomination? 7. Lev. 21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle-room here? 8. Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev. 19:27. How should they die? 9. I know from Lev. 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves? Not trying to shake anyone’s sincere faith as it is a gift to be shared rather than to be used as a weapon. At least that’s what I learned from a minister grandfather and an aunt/uncle who spent the better part of five decades as missionaries abroad. Peace. |
@millercarbon Well said. We can individually and collectively determine how we choose to feel and believe about a variety of subjects. Humanity has been (and will continue to be) faced with vexxing questions on these topics. If you believe my post above to be a bit "sophmoric", it was intended to be. It was actually intended to provoke the possibility that taking one's self too seriously is kindof silly itself. It was intended to demonstrate that dropping a bible verse to another in an audio forum to serve as some sort of "mic drop" moment is sortof silly as well. That's all. For instance, we are each highly proficient at that with which we are highly proficient. I would never debate with you about XRAY technology or the trouble in the retail health care system. I additionally would never dispute your automotive driving skillset. On the rare occasion that someone believes their singular proficiency is universal, you and I recognize there will always be another who will remind us, in the immortal words of the Gershwin's, "It ain't necessarily so". |
There is no hell ….. but if there is Im sure it would be an endless circlejerk conversation about vaccines, politics, religion, fuses, exceptionalism and nationalism. The only conversions possible among the members of this forum might be to get a solid state person to consider tubes or vice versa. If there is a g*d, I hope she has a sense of humor and resembles Nelson Pass. |
Stick a sock in it @isochronism , the wacko conspiracy BS is getting old. Either you are correct and we are all whistling happily along until the end of times none the wiser OR you are wrong and we are still whistling happily along. In either case, the sad news is you awake each day hoping for the worst so that you can be right. What a miserable effing existence. Now, back to my regularly scheduled programming of a Zen-like appreciation for each day and for those with whom I had the opportunity to imteract. |
Why are many health care workers quitting their positions? Ive heard its because they’ve grown weary of the wait for their Moabs to ship? Others believe those leaving the profession are tired of the overcrowding of the system caused by the unvaccinated OR they are leaving the profession because of the vaccine mandate many health care employers have implemented OR they are sick of their professions being politicized. Like everything else in the universe, its likely a combination of these. I assure you it isnt the Bilderbergers or George Soros or the woes of the supply chain. |
But @isochronism can we agree that most here could give a shyt about the ingredient? Or the fact that you may or may not be correct? Most who took the vaccine would have taken it anyway even if they had known. Most who did not take the vaccine would not have either way way so what is being accomplished? And why does it matter so much to you that you are acknowledged as having been right if that is in fact the case? |
@isochronism Why should I care? Are we operating within the law while doing everything in our power to ensure a safe and productive work environment? Yes. Am I going to require vaccines or masks to be employed? No, not unless it is mandated by law. If someone is granted a substantial bonus it will be because they contributed to a defined outcome in a material way. Isn’t that the way its supposed to work? Some may buy a house or a vacation home in which to place a nice hifi system. Others may just put it in other investments or deploy it to achieve whatever goals they may have. None of my business. |
Just finished a long meeting this morning determining bonuses for 2021 and doing our part to keep capitalism moving. Thought I would check in here at Audiogon to see if there are any new thoughts. I’ll keep checking back and remain ever hopeful that an audio forum materializes. Where is there some middle ground where the anti vax and pro vax, anti mask and pro mask, taxes too high and taxes too low, voting rights vs voting restriction crowds can co-exist? I dont care if someone is vaccinated or not and I further dont care why nor do I care where they choose to get their newsfeed from. I have made my reasonably informed decisions, they have made theirs and can’t we just move on? I have employees/co-workers on both sides...I dont particularly care which. We dont have to explain it to each other ad nauseum. Just because I prefer a certain sound, cable or topology doesn’t make how you may have voted in the last election relevant to me. Just here to enjoy the hobby. Cant we admit that a post on Audiogon isnt going to convert anyone from one side to the other? Why can’t we just leave it at that? Why do we care which side the other audio nut is on? We are still audio nuts. I appreciate that @mahgister is trying to achieve great sound on his defined budget. I appreciate that @millercarbon is maximizing his hifi enjoyment, even with the hyperbole or the occasional review prior to actually hearing the item LOL. Seriously, we have more in common than not dont we? |
@millercarbon once again, what is the point of these kind of posts on an audio forum??? Do you believe you will convert someone here and to what end? Are you really expecting someone to have an aha moment, resign from Greenpeace and read every Ayn Rand book because of your post. Can't there be an audio forum that focuses on audio? |
@millercarbon I was just answering Iso's question. You always come out swinging, thats cool. As I was stating, it would be fun to return to an audio forum. I wasnt commenting to state a pro/con position on any of the controversial subjects, I was actually trying to state an agnostic position on same in the hopes that Audiogon could return to being Audiogon. I penned that post in response to Iso that I also nurture a workplace that fosters the same. No big deal. If I somehow offended you for joking with you about writing a product review before you've heard a piece of gear you have on order, regrets. |
I understand that some nefarious individuals may be suppressing the data on the effects of hosting a seance vs vaccination vs non-vaccination. I also think the data should be analyzed as well with the subsets of individuals who utilized "thoughts and prayers being with them" vs those utilizing prayer only. Additionally, the effects of the seance have not been released to the public on its efficacy as a treatment by those who have unfortunately contracted Covid vs other proven treatments with the same "thoughts and prayers" modifiers. I want answers and others should too! (Ok, totally a tongue-in-cheek post for those who might mistake it for a serious post) Best to all. |
Whew...I'm glad we solved that!!!! Vaccinations, insurance and hedging one's circumstances. People will do whatever they are going to do. We utilize none, some or all of these tools or we choose not to. Its not that complicated. Trying to convince someone else firm in their position that their position is incorrect is where the problems arise and emotion kicks in. Best wishes to everyone whichever way you have chosen. |
@mahgister The truth is nobody KNOWS....Save God.... She isn't weighing in on this topic unfortunately, but she is rather focused on the outcomes of this weekend's college football games. Based on the interviews of the coaches and players leading in to the contests anyway. So, at least we have that right? |
@yuviarora Should we stockpile audio gear as well or do you think it will still be available for purchase this winter and beyond? If we are all fortunate to survive the winter do we donate the excess supplies to a local food bank or should we stay fully stocked and consume it first on the shelf, first consumed? You seem to assume Im taking a stance on something pro or con…Im unconcerned whether you do or dont. |
@mahgister You are correct, sarcasm doesn't replace reason. As you and I have cordially shared, I am merely pointing out through sarcasm that you/me/our fellow audio brethren are unlikely to change their minds, regardless of which side of the issue they happen to represent. I respect your right to decide for you without the need or right to know why or to understand why. Peace. |
@arch2 I prefer copper cables as well (I enjoy my A23 quite alot) except I also like Shindo silver cables in the context of my current setups. All of it is system dependent I guess. Maybe the thesis is that we prefer the cables we prefer....that just so happen to be copper (or in some cases silver). When I had an ARC reference stack, I preferred Transparent Audio cables because....well...because I paid alot of money for them and by gosh I was going to make sure they did the trick. I evolved more into the camp that @atmasphere so accurately communicates which is truly balanced gear is virtually cable agnostic. Peace. |
@isochronism I got rid of Television in 2006 How on earth are you able to keep up with the Kardashians or the Real Houswives of Orange County LOL? There isn't alot on television that inspires but have you seen the documentary "Echo in the Canyon"? You may be unplugged but still accessing content like this online. It seems for a while there in the 1960's, alot of musical greatness lived/visited that windy road and some great music poured out of there. Joni Mitchell, CSNY, Cass Elliott, etc, etc. |
It's my understanding that the lady on Real Housewives, whose husband (the attorney who used to be associated with Erin Brockovich) bilked some of his clients out of millions, is struggling to maintain her lifestyle. Its compelling tv. My neighbor also has a cat. Its also supposed to freeze next week. I appreciate though that others are solving the big issues in the world, if and when they should present themselves. Two-for-the-price-of-one tacos would sure be a nice issue for us to all join forces to address once we can all agree that copper cables are better than silver cables. Peace all. |
@arch2 I know right? Hard to beat the old reliable ground beef/crispy shell. I know of a place though that cooks the ground beef, allows it to cool, mixes in grated cheese and then places that in a soft corn tortilla. They use wooden toothpicks to hold it all in place inside the folded over tortilla and then....wait for it....they deep fry it in a politically correct vat of healthy and environmentally friendly oil. To say that it is sinful is an understatement....I'm not even Catholic and it makes me want to light a series of candles to atone. |
@mahgister peace to you as well. @arch2 I can only imagine trying to reach a consensus on what KIND of tacos to narrow it down to. I will fire right down the middle and go ground beef/crispy shell but I am completely cool if someone thinks chicken is the better choice although I sincerely hope if thats the consensus that its white meat rather than dark meat. I had an amazing flash fried tempura lobster taco recently but I froze when it came to corn vs flour tortillas. I hope I speak for everyone when I say that I think preparing these delectable tacos in a copper pan might be best rather than silver. First world problems I know...but we must band together toward the common taco goals. |
@arch2 @jond Since a few audiophiles might not be mistaken with someone suffering from Anorexia (a terrible condition) and a fair number utilize the services of a baracalounger covered in various fabric types, should we consider potential fabric staining from taco drippings on the barcalounger when deliberating ground beef fat content for the perfect taco? Everything matters right? |
@mahgister You may be on to something… I think mexican are nearer to God than us with this fruit Depending on the ferocity of the pepper, one can frequently hear loud references to a higher being. I believe the taco, a good enchilada, a finely crafted pork dumpling, a nice corn dog or a heaping serving of a fine shepherd’s pie all carry the ability to unify rather than divide. |
