Crazy crazy crazy

If we ever get through all this craziness and Axpona kicks back up meet me on the second floor at the bar. I’m buying the first round. Stay safe friends.

The toughest decisions I will have to make today: a hike or a round of golf; tacos or dim sum afterward; Aaron Copland or Houston Person with an adult beverage.

To those who believe its all fake, lost a dear friend from high school last month (unvaccinated, hospitalized for a few weeks, unfortunately couldnt recover) and my mother fall 2020. Everyone is going to die at some point but its how you choose to live that matters.

I will repeat that I am unemotional if you get vaccinated or don’t but what other activities do you pursue that bring you joy? I spend a great deal of time around highly successful, high net worth types and I have yet to come across one who is a) unvaccinated or b) wound too tightly or frothing at the mouth over Covid, vaccinations, masks or purported death camps.

Any chance some are mildly over reacting? Tacos anyone?
So, in the meantime, what are you guys doing for fun? Any great meals, activities or events? Fighting world oppression is hard work. What do you do in your down time and how do you stay energized?
@dabel very kind of you. Life is good….one was elderly and infirm, the other an avid, healthy outdoorsman….neither a match for Covid.

Its cool if you like curry or kimchi, its uncool if you believe I have to as well. Its cool if someone chooses to fight perceived injustices and make personal decisions.

Its uncool to deny the Holocaust, 9/11, Sandy Hook or to believe Armageddon is a specific future event rather than the historical battles of Megiddo near Haiffa.

@mahgister

A few serious questions for you. All season tires and drive carefully/selctively or winter tires? Winter tires vs snow tires? Snow tires vs studded snow tires? Lets solve this! And then we can have a taco. My treat!
@jond @dabel

Nah…kinda went missionary, chicken pad thai, money bag for an appetizer. So, how is everyone getting along after my long hike, a great lunch, a great walk with the wife and the retriever at the open air market and yes, we recognize how we look like one of those advertisements we all love to hate.
We only walked by one person talking to himself. He was a little overweight and typing on his cell phone. Who knows, he may have been posting here.
Those that get the most bent out of shape are usually the most vulnerable and least able to affect change. Its understandable. Its how lynchings happen.
@yuviarora I’m sorry the stance you have taken, which is your right, has carried such a high price. Let’s talk about the half full part of our existence.

Where do you get to move? What kind of gear do you have and will it work well in your new place? Is there a great taco joint nearby? Simple pleasures will help you bounce back.

Very best wishes.
@millercarbon

Me too.

I’m sorry to hear that MC. Standing for one’s principles can be quite unpopular at times. I hope you land on your feet with minimal impact. While we sometimes disagree on these particular issues, I certainly wish no ill will toward anyone nor do I wish misfortune to anyone who researched and made a personal decision they felt was right.

Best wishes with this next chapter in your life.

May we all come out the other side with the wisdom of hindsight, hoping that no one was absolutely right nor absolutely wrong.
@devilboy

We each make decisions that we believe are right….and when we do we know we will have to live with the consequences. Its never easy.

No one should wish ill will toward another and especially toward the family of another. I’m sorry that happened.

I dont wish ill will toward anyone jnless they hate vacuum tubes, thats a bridge too far. ;-)
@mahgister

Maybe you can be patient and a Linear Tube Audio LTA amplifier might show up on the preowned market at a great price. Its my understanding LTA, which utilizes Berning designed circuits, provides a large helping of the Berning magic.
Crud…I thought the thread had just about achieved enough fatigue….here comes the double down LOL….corner traps are our friend.
@mahgister

The problem facing humanity cannot be solved by childish opposition especially these kind of politic...

Mahgister, but humanity CAN be saved if we all just sit down and have a taco together and debate the merits of tubes vs solid state, copper vs silver, horns vs dynamic and tweaks vs no tweaks! Maybe just a taco, no one can resist the fellowship of a taco!
@yuviarora Is your friend experienced enough, capitalized or otherwise qualified to start his own firm? If he isnt at that level yet, then he could certainly replace his income workinh in a restaurant….a huge labor shortage in that industry.
Ladies and Gentlemen (I know, a diverse group is unlikely but just trying to be respectful in the unlikely event…):

There are a few certainties in this discussion;

1) Sincere people have absolutely inflexible and opposite viewpoints. Person A isnt going to flip to person B’s way of thinking and vice versa.

2) The pandemic (real or imagined) has polarized those who were once capable of being friendlywith one another. Was political division a nasty cause or an effect. Doesn’t really matter. Its here and people can choose to pour fuel on the division or move on. Its an individual choice to get along or not, not a circumstance.

3) Here is something that may upset some, and it absolutely isn’t intended to. Here is an example. During the lockdown, many worked from home….and some didn’t want to return to the office. This was the first moment where employers culled the rolls. Come back to the office or you are gone.

4) And now we find the workplace at an inflection point…get vaccinated or you are gone. Im not going to litigate the morality or whose rights are at stake. The point I want to make is many who lose their job during this time will vehemently believe it is a result of their politics or a matter of freedom or an infringement of their rights as a purported child of a higher being. The reality may be much more troubling.

5) That reality will be hard to stomach by some but in the months to come, the vaccination requirement and those resistent to complying is actually going to be a natural filter in the workplace. In short, it will be used as an absolute point where employers will use this as a moment to identify an overtly inflexible employee. In years past, people would keep certain things to themselves. Now days, many are emboldened to come out of the closet and communicate (to some) their extreme viewpoints, one of which is their stance on the vax.

6) I contend a great many in the workplace who are difficult to manage may have also taken a stand against mandatory vaccinations. This will be a convenient moment to flush that group out of certain organizations. Right or wrong, if someone is hard to work with, it will be a convenient and legal way to get rid of someone they think is a pain in the ass. Right or wrong, if someone critical to the success of an organization refuses the vaccine, you can be certain that the organization will find a way to make it work.

I’m not saying everyone who loses their job over their refusal to vaccinate is a pain but every organization will have to determine the lengths they are willing to go to retain the employee who refuse to vaccinate.
The opposite of martyrdom is not becoming a sheep or an ostrich. Somewhere in between are the ones left who write history.
And my point above was that those who chart an intentional course to become martyrs, sincere or stubborn-it doesnt matter which, typically pay a high price.

Korean War era Marine Corp father, when not using their sons to sharpen their pugilistic skills, would often discuss “is this the hill you will die on or is this the hill you are choosing to die on”. I listened carefully to both he and my Medal of Honor Godfather when they discussed decision making. “Make decisions as if the stakes are high so that when the stakes are high you will know how to make decisions.”

Tacos anyone?
@yuviarora very cool. Ever try silver foil? Just curious given the copper vs silver debates. Regarding your Brystons, photos Ive seen of Duelands, they seem big. Do they make small ones that fit inside the Bryston chassis or am I only thinking of the massive Duelands ala Jeff Day?
@arch2 my sincere apologies. My research indicates that sour cream should NEVER be present on a taco, if you disagree then Marxism is at play.
Lets assume for a moment that everyone on each side of this thread has said everything they have to say. Wouldnt everyone agree at this stage of the game that posters likely arent going to change anyone’s position. Therefore, from here on, if someone repeats something theyve already said they must have a different need to fill. They either have a desperate need to say something or they have a desperate need to be heard.

I’ll go first…COPPER cables and crispy ground beef tacos!
@yuviarora Thats more like it! Thank you. Where might one utilize the duelands? Speaker crossovers? Will they work with a taco driven household? LOL.
Tacos seem to have the ability to bridge all ideologies. Castro loved them, Kennedy loved them, Reagan loved them, Thatcher loved them…..
The toughest thing to stomach for all of us, regardless of our ideology or passion, is that the law of large numbers predicts the eventual outcome. Thats frustrating to any individual, especially if the predictable outcome is opposite the individuals desired outcome.

I recall vividly when the air traffic controllers were fired for striking during the Reagan administration. They weren’t wrong, they were just on the wrong side of the outcome.

There will be many, regrettably, during this time who will pay a very high price. That price might be paid by someone who takes the vaccine and has an adverse outcome…it happened during polio….alot of dead kids until they got it worked out. That high price might be paid by someone choosing to not be vaccinated losing their jobs or worse, they get sick and have long term covid side effects or worse, they lose their life or a loved one.

I made my decision and others have made theirs, there should be mutual respect even if we dont always understand or agree with the other person’s decision. Where I think we all get bent out of shape is the criticism, many times harsh and over the top, from the other side.

I’m just not that concerned that I made the right or wrong decision, the outcome will be what it will be now that its made. Same goes for every time I get behind the wheel of the car, board an airplane, eat food. I stand by my non-judgemental but reasoned assertion that those who lose their jobs in small to mid-size firms it will be because of issues larger than take a shot or not. It will be because the cost to figure out a way to accomodate the individual isn’t worth it to the organization.

If we were forced to require the vaccine of all staff, which we are but of course the rules have yet to be written, we would examine the fallout and adjust accordingly. I have co-workers for whom we would set them up in a sole proprietorship and contract back from them to perform similar work. I have co-workers for whom it is unlikely we would change the thermostat to accomodate. Thats kindof the way it will unfold to varying degrees. Large companies, the law of large numbers kicks in and some good and some less good team members will be lost because its more of a binary decision.

We should always be honest with ourselves, what kind of co-worker are we? Are we constantly railing against the windmill of the day, certain that everyone is out to get us or keep us down? Life will go on and leave us behind or not, depending on the decisions we make. The really perplexing decisions people make that I dont understand arent the ones who take/dont take the vaccine, its the ones who stay behind in their homes when a massive hurricane is barreling toward them.

Oh well, peace to all and good luck with the outcome, no matter which choice youve made.
