comparison between Teac 701t transport vs esoteric p-70 model or alike?

Hi,

thinking of replacing my loved esoteric p-70 vu and renewing my line.

the P70vu is one of the best Redbook transport ever made, yet I don’t need most of its features and the kss-151a pick-up laser is an issue... it’s starting to show its age and no skilled technician here to service such a  unique cd transport player, nor any technical backup ( zero in customer relations for esoteric Teac ) from the manufacturing company ,I am afraid.

relying on Teac’s know-how I thought of their latest affordable transport.

has anyone tried their transport vs older esoteric transport or more expensive current models?

C.E.C is an option also btw. Jay’s audio is a mystery for me- just

recently while looking I heard about that brand.

Hi

The Teac 701t is great.    My past players were Sony ES , some OPPO players and also early on a CAL Delta transport.  Among others.

The 701t is super quiet.  It feels solid and has a decent remote.   I really like the knob to skip tracks and for menu navigation.

Sound quality with my Lab 12 DAC is excellent,  the Teac only has Coax and Toslink  which may be a deal breaker for some,  but they sound so good together it is a non issue for me.

It has a nice sound when handling discs,  doesn't sound like a cheap mechanism.   Sound quality is as good or better than my Aurender N200 with 16/44.1k material.

I really can't think of any "cons" with this machine.   I'm glad I bought it, not sure how long really good transports will be available and affordable

@oddiofyl thanx.

I am so attached to my P70, that it scares me to let go....

That p70 was a part of my setup for years and was one of its pride and joy.

I do feel that the vrds mechanism has proven itself, and that Teac hold a lot of know-how in cd transport field. Add to this that i dont feel like paying furtune for that part of my setup ( nor any other at that stage of my life to be honest). So i think its somthing i will have to try in order to find out.

Realy hope itvwill be balanced and articulate and not that far behind the P70. The 20 years of technology will narrow the gap of the " light" built quality of the 701t in comprasion to the massive well built P70. I will report with god's help.

I hope

I had a 701t for a trial and it easily bested the Oppo’s I had previously. Only returned it because not sure I was going to use it that much as my streaming set up is pretty solid. Nice unit though.
Music Direct will give you a 60 day trial or 10% off with no return.

@benzman thanks, i live in Israel so music direct is no option for me....

I will probably buy the teac out of cost-effective consideration. also, as

much as every part of the chain is important- from a certain level the differences in transports are becoming more subtle. I hope that the level of the new affordable teac will be not that much far behind the premium one i used to have, and with the option to add external clock i think it will narrow the gap even more.

i hope that the shortcuts and savings were mainly in the heavy box and multiple connections- i realy need only one good coax output....
