Regarding the vt100, I heard it with the Proac 2.5 and 3.5's(maybe 3.8's?)both outstanding speakers and both were outstanding with the vt100. The list of speakers that work well with the vt100 is endless. Only speakers with very low effiency and/or impedence would not interface well.
I would give the SE a long audition. While it is usually paired with low powered tube amps thats because it CAN be, not that it has to. It is truly an outstanding speaker on its own merit and its side firing woofers would make them easier to integrate into your smallish room. Good luck and let me know how it turns out.
