Speakers clearly matter in getting slam... As amps go, it's all about voltage, higher rail voltage gives slam... Inexpensive amp that with give great slam and very good micro dynamics is the audiosource amp 300... Does a pretty fair job on everything else as well... And it's low ohm drive capability is ridiculously good.
