Perhaps the humidity may affect a wooden arm (although I can't imagine that the wood would not have been properly sealed against such absorption?)......the dimensional stabilty of a wooden arm with temperature variations will be an order of magnitude better than arms constucted of aluminium, titanium, plastic and perhaps even carbon-fibre?
