Cartridge recommendation for Garrard 301/SME M212R

In the process of having having a restored Garrard 301 (Grease bearing) TT built. After much deliberation have decided on the SME M2-12R tonearm. Seems to be SME's modern update the classic SME 3012. It even has a retro look. Any suggestions on cartrdige? Would like to keep it no more than $1000. My first thoughts are the Ortofon Classic GM MKII or Ortofon Classic GM MKII-E. Any other candidates that I should consider?
