Cant get hi-res through Chromecast audio

Greetings all.

I am streaming Tidal through a chromecast audio, into the optical input of a simaudio 240i integrated with DAC.  It maxes out at 44.1 with tidal, but quoboz streams at 96.

what am I missing?  User error?
