The series 2 is excellent with more control over the setup you can usually exceed its two channel performance by using DPLII. On two channel CD the results are adequate but the upgraded multi-channel facilities elevate CD playback to a higher level using on board DAC's and surround in playback, especially you're using speakers near the $500-$700/pr range. A rare over-achiever for the money.
