I had the same setup, before my BAT VK-D5. Rolling tubes though the Sigma II and Alpha (owned both), made a NOS Siemens tube believer out of me. Hopefully: yours has the 24/96 upgrade. I would be very hesitant to try a 5/10A fuse, since that’s a 66% increase in rating. Stick with the originals; at least, while you determine there’s nothing wrong with the unit (you mentioned the one in it is blown, if I’m correct). https://www.amazon.com/Bussmann-MDL-3-10-Time-Delay-Listed/dp/B009RUDJVQ or: https://www.ebay.com/itm/LOT-OF-5-EACH-LITTELFUSE-USA-313-3AG-3-10A-250V-SLOW-BLOW-FUSES/38300084352...
Cal Audio Alpha/Delta Question
Hello guys, I have a Cal Audio Alpha/Delta combo that I have had for about 14 years but never used ti till now, original owner bought it new in 1997. Opened it up and it still has the Cal Audio branded tubes so I re-seated them as the original owner told me that the unit didn't have much time on it because he just hated the way it sounded. I checked the fuse on the Alpha and it blown but I cant find a .3A 250V fuse, and not sure if its fast or slow blow. So my question is can I replace the with a .5A/250V slow blow fuse from a boutique fuse and not have a problem. The original fuse seems to have piece of TEFL in it with a thin wire coiled around it, the only other making on the fuse is 313. Thanks in advance guys for your time and effort.

Glad you found a good fuse, that won't be a risk! I really enjoyed the Alpha/Delta combo. It was the first digital rig I'd heard, that sounded like music and actually presented something resembling a soundstage (depth and all), with the right CDs. Very easily worked on, as well (everything easily accessible). Had to better than double the dinero, to find something superior. Try swapping in some upper-crust, NOS, 12AX7s, for even greater aural thrills. Happy (belated) New year and ENJOY, my friend! |
Here's where I shop, for small signal tubes: http://www.audiotubes.com/12ax7.htm Brent is hard to beat, when it comes to honesty, informed opinion and product quality. Tell him your preferences, far as presentation; he'll hook you up. The Alpha/Delta pair is well worthy of some high quality valves. You won't regret the investment. Have fun! |
