Cables for AR now Recoton powered speakers

I use my excellent conditioned AR powered loudspeakers for an all in one 19" cheapie TV to watch VCR's and DVD's in a 2nd room. The wire has always been a bit dicey at the plug in end where it goes into the headphone jack.

Does anyone have experience repairing, replacing and/or acutally upgrading the cables?

BTW, the units sound great for mid fi even in a big room--sort of like a Bose sound.
