The phono to preamp connection is probably the most sensitive to cable changes of the connections.
Cable choices tend to become much more pronounced with the higher resolution of the system (think cost for simplicity), and cables tend to make a bigger difference the greater the quality (think cost for simplicity).
Given that, it is quite possible you will not hear a difference. However, there is a strategy that I think might work. I would go to the Cardas Cable companies web site. Learn all about their cables (this is one of the few companies I would recommend even reading their colored glossies). Then go to The Cable Company and look for a used budget Cardas interconnect, there are other sources as well, like Audiogon. Typically they go for half price. This will get you a high quality cable hopefully in your price range that will make a difference.
Cardas design cables to complement the equipment you are likely to own in that cost category. I believe this is the only company to do this. I recommend this approach much more than going to inexpensive cables by companies like Blue Jeans, Belkin, etc… I have tried several and they are generally no better than what comes with a component.
I have been building my system for fifty years. I have gone through long periods of experimenting with different interconnects at various times as my system (s) have gotten better. You can see my current systems under my user ID.
