Buy LED, LCD or Plasma

Going for a new TV. Any hints, warnings or advice? It will go over the fireplace instead of the rug there now.

Good choice. The Panny S1 series is a great value. You get the same glass as the more expensive sets for a better price.

My plasma set (panasonic P50S1) has no buzz to it. I have heard anecdotally of some Samsung sets that have a buzz.

It does have some very quiet fan noise but you have to be right next to the set to hear it.

The digital out has no volume control (if that is what you mean). You need whatever you plug it into to control the volume.

Why not just forget about the tv's built in speakers and rely on your other speakers? That's what I do.

Albert- I use a Sony Rm-VL610 universal learning remote to control my system. You can program it so that the volume functions control an amp/receiver etc. But the channel buttons control your tv or cable box. It's only $30 and so far it has proven to be a pretty good one remote solution for my system.

My only complaint is that it's preprogrammed panasonic tv codes did not work well with the S1 and I had to learn commands from the tv remote. Not a big deal really though. If you have more $$ to spend there are other remotes that use USB to get codes from your computer, which sounds easier to me.

I see what you are saying. Does it have to use the RF? I have Dish net and you can set it to use IR or RF. If you can get it to use IR only then you can use an IR repeater so that you do not need to have line-of-sight between the remote and the unit it is controlling.

I know that my dish net remote can be programmed to control my receivers volume but I don't know about AT&T. I think there is a good chance it will but you will have to check the manual or call them and ask.
