Building high-end 'tables cheap at Home Despot II

“For those who want the moon but can't afford it or those who can afford it but like to have fun and work with their hands, I'm willing to give out a recipe for a true high-end 'table which is easy to do, and fun to make as sky's the limit on design/creativity! The cost of materials, including 'table, is roughly $200 (depending, more or less), and add to that a Rega tonearm. The results are astonishing. I'll even tell/show you how to make chipboard look like marble and fool and impress all your friends. If there's interest I'll get on with this project, if not, I'll just continue making them in my basement. The next one I make will have a Corian top and have a zebra stripe pattern! Fun! Any takers?”

Hi all,

I just scored two gems: an ADC K-8 XLM Mk.2 cartridge, and an Ortofon VMS 20E Mk.2 cartridge, each for under $30 on Ebay. Does anyone have any experience with either of these two cartridges, preferably on a Lenco or similar rim drive turntable?
Hi Jean, why do you think the Rega RB-250 is better with MM's than the RB-300? The 250 has a brass base while the 300 is stainless steel, and the 300 has a spring downforce. but other than that aren't they the same? just curious as to your impressions.
Hi all, a couple of questions, first, where is there a good supplier of a Denon 103E cartridge, and what is the cost?

also, how do you get the Lenco tonearm mounting collar off? I looked under the turntable and there is a large nut, but I cant seem to turn it.

Thanks, Michael
Hi all, I am using a stock Lenco L75 with a Rega RB300 tonearm and a Denon DL-103 cartridge thru a Denon AU300 step up transformer. I am blown away by this setup, especially the Denon cartridge with its conical stylus. I have ordered the TJN mod from Jean and I am waiting to get it. Question for anyone, is it that difficult to install?

Also, I am curious about the bearing upgrade that Jean sells for $190, what kinds of sonic improvements could I expect from that?

thanks! Michael
