Borresen Loudspeakers

Had the opportunity to attend the launch event of the Borresen X1 loudspeakers last night in Chicago @nextlevelhifi with @jays_audio_lab. From their M6 at $550k per pair all the way down to the newly launched X1 speakers last night at $5500 your ears will smile. Amazing what a 4.5” driver can do. If you are in the market for any price range speaker about $5,000 and up you have to hear these. Imaging is 3 dimensional, larger than life soundstage and just absolutely stunning performance with a look that will fit any room. This manufacturer out of Denmark really gets it and I don’t care what price point you are looking at these speakers will out perform speakers double the price.  If you are buying speakers up to $25k you have to hear their $11k option.  The rep for Borresen is hitting all the shows/events over the next several months in the US. Oh, and by the way, I loved the X1 so much I bought the first pair that will ship to me in early March!

I went with the X1 as I have several other Floor-Standers, I wanted a good monitor with good sound and the X1 fit that bill. Speakers just showed up today, will start the break in process.. Still torn on the Axxess Forte’ as the main difference between the Forte’ 1,2, and 3 are the amount of the Tesla Coils, and those if you look them up (Tesla Coils) are not that expensive but it’s good to see their electronics coming with trickledown tech as well. But lower noise floor usually was handled by Ansuz power to lower the noise floor never thought those would make a difference but it did..

Great looking speaker, I heard the Raidho’s and owned some Scansonics, great sound but a touch bright for me. The new shinny coin syndrome and hype have set in, which can make things difficult to choose any speaker. The best way to make any decision before you go all in and bash a speaker you haven’t heard, is order a go listen to a pair if you can, or order a pair. <<< Much easier to do at this price point. Common sense always wins in my book, so I ordered a pair, and if I don’t like them I will just sell them.. I think these speakers could fall in the category of value, quality = spectacular sound. (Time will tell) Heck even the new Magnepan LRS+ are remarkable for what they do at $1300 with risers.

mbmi: 12 speakers? Which brands? Heck I thought I was a speaker whore, with 4 speakers and soon to be 5 (X1)... Another monitor I have and love is the Audio Physic Spark, very, very good. Subjective hobby, and enjoy what you have!

mbmi: My addiction started in college, roommate hate killer system, then failed out of school, so I went and worked for a record/CD store then a High End HiFi store. Started off with Vector Research boombox then Kenwood Stereo which I still have then it escalated after College.

mbmi and riaa:

LOL, and I thought I had a problem! Well, I usually try and buy since there is very little dealers left near me. I do go to shows still when I can, now I rotate speakers as I don't have the room for collecting, but have had 100's of different brands at one point. Dynaudio's has been a constant along with Magnepan and a few others.

woots: Any idea when your X1 are supposed to make it to the States? I heard first batch of X1s is at the end of March or beginning of April.

woots: Like you I am a speaker whore! ;) I ordered a pair heard the X3’s almost bought a used pair from a guy in St. Louis they were white and they wouldn’t have worked in my room, WAF factor kicked in. Easier to hide and move around a monitor verses a floor-stander. ;) I got the stands as well, using a pair of Audio Physic Spark speakers, which I really like, I will let them burn in before I compare, as I will be keeping only 1 pair down the road.

Woots: Your speakers come in yet, mine did at dealer. Now I have to have them shipped to me, way too far to drive... I thought they would come in smaller boxes as their size isn't that big. Dealer said they came on a pallet!

My X1s are on their way to me now... they had to be sent via freight (145lbs), great thing is I can listen to them before Axpona as I hope they have the bigger models there as well.

scslite: So far right out of the box a tad bright, but I am breaking them in with a different Class D Amp. The Naim gear however sounds the best with them so far, and I will try the BAT VK80i on them as well once I get 100 hours on them, as they do improve over time. I need to go over what Lars told me to place them, more of a U configuration than a Triangle, is what I remember. I am comparing them to a pair of Audio Physic "Spark" which is a remarkable speaker as well.

woots: Have fun on Vacation and listening to those when you get back.

woots/scslite: I got about 200 on the X1 now, I wanted the X3 but easier to hide the X1 from my wife! The main reason is I don’t have room for floor standers as I too many right now, and I am happy with what I have. You can't go wrong with the guys at Next Level, they are great and know how to setup a room. I ended up getting  mine from another dealer I know it Texas who helped me getting sooner than later, otherwise I would be waiting many months, and I am sure after Axpona, they will be even harder to get.

I might venture out on Sunday and drive to Axpona with a friend, their room is always crowded because they know how to set it up correctly. The guys from Borresen and Next Level do a great job at this, so it doesn't surprise me the room is always full! Got well over 200 hours on speakers and they sounded great right out of the box, but even sound more 3D, and play much larger than they look.

Zeno3: Similar results at the show, good sound but once the rooms got overly crowded it was hard to tell, as people were talking etc.. My X1 tweeters have some edginess in the Tweeter realm but that was over come by using my BAT Tube Int. Amp which seems to make everything sound better. When I put that combo together it was like a ah ha moment very good pairing, even better than what they were using at the show. I have 3 monitors and I am selling off one or two pairs, need to make a decision on one of these.. Borresen X1, Audio Physic Sparks are so close in sound with a slight edge going to the Sparks. The real winner for me was the Triangle Duetto 40th Anniversary speaker, that sounded the best to my ears.  Dynamics the win goes to X1... the Triangle and Tubes, match made in heaven..

primetime74: totally different speakers, X3 are very Dynamic and do really well on fast music and stereo separation is excellent on the Borresen’s lines. Sonus Faber is manufactured all in house now even the cabinets are made in Italy and are pieces of art. The X line and all of the Borresen is very good to excellent, and the same goes with SF, as I like them even more now since they have updated their drivers etc.. The SF line is softer more relax sounding but very detailed. This is a highly opinionated hobby and with these two sounding drastically different, I would demo and make your mind up on "what you like" because that is all that matters in this hobby, not what some one tells you what you should like. ;) I own the Serafino’s and X1’s they both excellent, and excel in different ways.
