Big Jazz Band Music with Great Sound

I don’t listen to much jazz but I was at a concert over the weekend that had some new pieces in the style of big band/swing music.  The recordings that I do own from that era were made on 78s or mono LPs and while I have nothing against older technology, and since this is an audiophile site, I was wondering if someone could recommend some albums in more up to date sound (stereo will do) for me to explore

Sounds like you prefer a more traditional big band sound (Swing).

Count Basie’s band was one of the greatest; some would say the greatest.  Two recordings with truly outstanding sound:

-“88 Basie Street” , “Me and You”.

You may also check out the classic live recording  “Sinatra at the Sands” with the Count Basie orchestra conducted by Quincy Jones.

-Benny Goodman, “Benny Goodman in Hi Fi”

-Duke Ellington, “Masterpieces”

Hard to find, but with the best recorded sound I’ve heard from a big band recording is the direct to disc lp:

-Rob MacConnell and The Boss Brass, “Big Band Jazz”
