BEST HEAVY METAL BAND

I don't even like them. I prefer Ozzy, Black Sabbath, Def Leppard and many more, but not them.

Yes, DL are my fave. Ever hear any Helix? They have a song called "Heavy Metal Love", that's just killer!

Metallica ,in their early days they were the Kings. Modern day , I have to disagree with Godsmack, if I wanted to hear Alice in Chains I'd listen to Alice in Chains. COC Rock hard, as do Pantera, Slipknot(wild live shows), Sepultura (Before Max Left), 40 Grit and Stuck Mojo. But my Fave Band of all time is KYUSS, Awesome music one of the most different sounding bands ever, the Guitarist, Josh Homme (now in Queens of the Stone Age with another ex KYUSS member Nick Oliveri, Aussies catch them at the Big Day Out) used to run his setup through a Bass Amp for some Extreme bottom end power. Just the humble of a metal fan of 14 years. BTW I am only 26.

Tim,if ya think Alice and Godsmack sound similar then ya better up grade!! I love both bands and have most of Alice on vinyl.Anyone ever see Godsmack on vinyl? If so let me know.

Dust ??? Dust was Marky Ramone's band. His real name is Mark (or maybe Marc) Bell. If you look at the pictures of him on the albums, you'll instantly recognize the "traditional" Ramones look of long stringy hair, cheap leather jacket, blown out knees in his jeans, etc... Keep in mind that this was quite a bit before the Ramones ever appeared. As to Dust being a "metal" band, I don't think so. From what i can recall, their first album was their best. Sean >

As a side note, i think that there is quite a bit of confusion about what is "metal" and what is "hard rock". While i know that some bands fall into both genres ( Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, etc..), many of the names that keep popping up here are NOT metal bands. Does the band Red Rider fall into "metal" because they used electric guitars, played pretty loud and did a tune called "heavy metal" ? I think not. You get the point. Go to a REAL metal show and see who's name is talked about with the most respect out of all the REAL metal bands. Slayer wins hands down. Even if you don't like them, you have to respect them. They are the ONLY "metal" band that has stayed true to their roots and NEVER swayed for almost 20 years. They also ranked in the top 50 of VH1's TOP 100 "hard rock" acts of all time. They were the only band to do this with ABSOLUTELY ZERO commercial airplay or support and VH1 made specific mention of this fact. It takes a very loyal and large fan base to do something like that. Besides all of those things, you should hear Tom Arraya sing "Bye, Bye Miss American Pie".... now THAT would be the day that you DIIIIEEEE !!! Sean >

You guys should check out Acid Bath. They only put out two albums. "When the Kite String Pops" and "Paegan Terrorism Tactics" are both killer. I was starting to give up on finding any decent heavy metal until a friend turned me on to Acid Bath a few years ago. They are a little hard to describe. Kind of like Sabbath with a hardcore/grindcore southern death metal influence. Truly awesome!

David99, I have over the weekend been forced to eat about 5 humble pies as you are correct about Godsmack and Alice, I heard the 'Smack on my home stereo Fri. night,I apologize profusely and must stop listening to how bands sound on my crappy work radio I am now looking to replace my shitty radio and purchase the 'Smacks latest offering. Once again I am a fool!!! What would every one here class KYUSS as? I know they are known as the creators of "stoner rock" but are they Heavy enough to be Metal? PS Slayer is probably equal with Metallica! I mean how awesome is Reign in Blood and All Slayer fans should love Divine Intervention(my fave Slayer Album). Tim.

Tim,quit eating humble pie and try "peach" pie,much better!! I think the first(self titled) Smack is awesome!!I havent heard the new one yet but read its not as good as the first Smack.I wish I knew other modern metal bands to check out.As of now I have on vinyl Tool "undertow" Alice in Chains "self titled""Jar of Flies" and "Sap" I also have Korn "Follow the Leader" White Zombie "Astro Creep" Rage against The Machine "self titled"Metal?? and NIN "The Fragile"metal?? If any of you modern metal heads know any other KILLER modern metal bands let me know.
