The CAL CL 10 5 disc changer used around 850-1100. Can also be used just as a transport. Great sound.
Kinn Karik! You can find one, for that amount, (negotiate little..)it easily beats anything in that price range, and above...(later you can add Numerik d/a, that combo was "stereophile" class "A" for many years)

Arcam Alpha 8 or 8se, great musical cd player and fully upgradable to Alpha 9 (ring DAC) for superb sound on a budget. Upgrade only costs difference bewteen 2 units! If Arcam improves DAC again, you can upgrade again. Used Arcams appear on auction sites at $450-$550 - but you better be quick! Check comments in Stereophile & Audioreview. Also new Musical Fidelity @just under 1K from Audio Advisor is excellent player. You can try that out for 30days in system @ home. Happy hunting!
I have an Audiolab 8000CD you can have for $995.00 it is a $1600.00 player with the Philips top of the line transport.
Best CDP for $1000 new is Musical Fidelity A3CD, see new Oct Stereophile for review. Wes Phillips bought review sample when he reviewed for OnHiFi.com. I own one and am very impressed especially when generic AC cord is tossed and replaced with PowerSnakes Sidewinder.
TM very lengthy review at onhifi.com by Wes Phillips who purchased review sample (with standard cord) Sidewinder furhter enhances detail, air and 3D imaging for modest additional cost, Sam
Arcam 8E has mechanics from Sony (France) usually found in only in much higher priced equipment. Use external DAC or Arcam DAC upgrades as time and your budget allow
Well, how about a Meridian 506.20 or an earlier 506.24?? I am searching the "net" for one right now. But I am going to wait for my finances to recover so that they can permit the purchase of one (that might not happen until January or February). After looking on this site, I am convinced that I can get a Meridain 506 Series CD Player for anywhere from around $800.00 to about $1,200.00 (depending on version and vintage of the player). It has the same exact transport (a Philips top-of-the-line transport) as their $4,000.00 508.24. The 506.24 is exactly the same player as the 508.24 only the 506.24 lacks one or two features or refinements and it lacks the "re-clocking" capability of the 508.24 (and it is for about half the price too). Again, I am searching for a used 506.24 right now so that I can prepare for its acquisition in January or February. My price range will be from $850.00 to about $1,200.00.
The new Jolida JD-603 for $550.00 has tube audio stage. Great sound for the money.
