Use a safety cable! Hook one end to the monitor, and the other end to the respective sidewall near the ceiling. If the monitor should fall, it will swing to the side and smash against the wall (before possibly breaking the safety cable too!)
Ditto if you mount a flat panel TV monitor on the ceiling!
Some people have used a bungee cord(s) mounted from the monitor to the ceiling right near the actual monitor mounting point, the idea being if the mount pulls loose, the monitor will drop straight down slightly and bounce (saving the monitor.) Don't know if this has actually worked.
