IMHO the BAT will be more dynamic and have tighter bass where the Cary will be smoother, more rounded and more on the lush side if that's what your are looking for.
For rock & upbeat/fast music = BAT VK-60
For vocals & slower jazz = Cary V12r
Both are great amps but do often come up used on Audiogon at big discounts from retail.
Make sure you get at least a "C" revision of the VK-60.
You may also want to consider a pair of the AES (Cary) Sixpacs which are supposed to be a bit more dynamic than the V12r. All kinds of raves for these monos.
