I’ve owned the phenomenal Ayre Acoustic QX-5 Twenty streaming DAC for about four years now. And all I can tell you is that it’s my end-game, forever DAC. There’s a multitude of great DACs out there on the market today and, obviously, it’s impossible to hear them all. I was very fortunate to had been able to a do an extensive audition of the QX-5 Twenty at my local dealers before purchasing. At the dealers, I was also able to do a side-by-side comparison of the QX-5 Twenty with the wonderful dCS Bartok Streaming DAC, which I was fully prepared to purchase. But the QX-5 Twenty performed so fabulously well, I didn’t think the dCs DAC was worth the extra cash, so I took the QX-5 Twenty home with me, and never looked back. Happy listening.
Ayre QX-5 Twenty
I have been looking at a few DAC's and Ayre QX-5 twnety is one of them. It checks a lot of boxers. It has a built in streamer, headphone jack, and a filter for video which I like. I just want to make sure the technology is still up to date since it has been out for so long. I know that Ayre has updated the network card and usb port. I found out the unit has an FPGA chip that is updated with software when needed. It has the last generation ESS chip not the one just released but they don't use the filters on the chip. They said they only use about 5% of the chip's processing power is used. Let me know if their is anything just as good for the same price.

@kennymacc You are right when you mentioned all kinds of DAC's out their. Why diid you move onto another DAC? |
As stated, "the Ayre Acoustic QX-5 Twenty streaming DAC is my end-game, forever DAC." I also stated, "I took the QX-5 Twenty DAC home with me, and never looked back." So, yes, I still use and enjoy my Ayre Acoustic QX-5 Twenty streaming DAC immensely, with no desire of replacing it whatsoever. Happy listening. |
@kennymacc Sorry about that. I misread your post and thought you really liked it and moved on for some reason. |
