Audio Science Review = "The better the measurement, the better the sound" philosophy

"Audiophiles are Snobs"  Youtube features an idiot!  He states, with no equivocation,  that $5,000 and $10,000 speakers sound equally good and a $500 and $5,000 integrated amp sound equally good.  He is either deaf or a liar or both!

There is a site filled with posters like him called Audio Science Review.  If a reasonable person posts, they immediately tear him down, using selected words and/or sentences from the reasonable poster as100% proof that the audiophile is dumb and stupid with his money. They also occasionally state that the high end audio equipment/cable/tweak sellers are criminals who commit fraud on the public.  They often state that if something scientifically measures better, then it sounds better.   They give no credence to unmeasurable sound factors like PRAT and Ambiance.   Some of the posters music choices range from rap to hip hop and anything pop oriented created in the past from 1995.

Have any of audiogon (or any other reasonable audio forum site) posters encountered this horrible group of miscreants?

@juanmanuelfangioii indeed. I could do it if I had no other choice…but luckily that isn’t the case. I just wish @quiet would finish cutting my lawn prior to engaging in an online flame war with the adults.

ASR wouldnt be a thing here if they didn’t send their junior water boys over to poke the bear, especially if the bear would just yawn and carry on.

ASR has a purpose though. If I lost everything in a natural disaster or economic calamity and if I had been uninsured and if I had not been financially prudent throughout my life and if I had no other options, I might see what ASR recommended to hold me over for a few months until I got back on my feet.

@juanmanuelfangioii I will but not until he finished his yard work, does his homework, takes out the garbage and flosses his braces.

There are probably more than a few here who miss the good old days of arguing over Covid vaccines.

I don’t find ASR or Amir objectionable, just irrelevant for my purposes and for many who frequent Audiogon. Why is everyone slamming him. I believe HE believes sincerely in his approach. Its like a good housekeeping seal of approval for a certain level of gear. Whats wrong with that? Some have a little too much time here, however, I might tune in if Amir and Danny squared off for a pillow fight.

Come on guys, you either place validity in the way Amir does things or you don't. (I happen to believe he is being as scientific about the process as he can. Me? I don't care how my 211 tube amp measures, I like it.) I also season my food to how I like it even if Emeril Lagase says I shouldn't.

Amir has been cordial, even with all the chirping. Let it go...be nice, visit his site or don't...why does it matter so deeply?

I’m running out of popcorn and the mudwrestling match shows no signs of a clear winner in sight.

This whole thread makes me chuckle. Thinly veiled disciples of a cult “subjectively” preaching to a crowd of those who know better…then when the preaching doesn’t work they continue to sermonize with neither an invitation nor a rational purpose for continuing.

Amir seems like a sincere guy and his niche is his to do with as he pleases. Good for him and for those who hang on his every word. Why isn’t it a good strategy for those still hinged to just grab a cup of coffee and ignore the unhinged disciples until they hop back into their ‘88 Civics with the grapefruit shooter mufflers and return to Toppingville?

I’m not rejecting science @crymeanaudioriver I’m just rejecting the audio equivalent of fanatical Scientologists. U B U, but this isn’t the ideal venue for your message, you’re just too arrogant to realize you are much more entertaining as an anomoly than you are appreciated.

@mitch2

Please clarify, which side is the “cult”?

Whichever side is the one that believes they are right and the other is wrong. It varies by the individual regardless of ideology.

A new Camry is a better car in every measurable way than an old bathtub Porsche. I know which one I’d rather own. A new iWatch keeps better time in every measurable way than an old Zenith chronograph. I know which one I’d rather own. A new cello or guitar is likely more “accurate” than one from 250 years ago (cello) or 50 years ago (guitar). I know which one I’d rather listen to.

I don’t need or desire to convert anyone to anything. Those that do are attempting to do so for another purpose.

Indifference comes to mind. Most of the discussion on this thread has involved discussing the finer points of a wine no one here wishes to drink.

“Meanwhile back at the ranch, while the ranch hands predisposed to measuring the phallic prowess of the various stallions argue of its importance, the wise ranch hand is enjoying a leisurely ride though a beautiful meadow by a stream, sun lightly filtered through the branches of an imperfect tree, with the other ranch hands sweethearts.”

Sorry, couldn’t resist. I’m just stting here listening to Ellington’s masterpiece “Afro Bossa” through a pristine pair of NOS 211 vacuum tubes which, in all liklihood, measure horrbily next to the Topping amplifier du jour. Drive what you like because at the end of the day, nobody gives a darn but you.

@kota1 Hey, ASR is Amir’s site to do with as he pleases and its a site that the ASR disciples obviously appreciate. Now, why on earth do they want to invade a neighboring country or vice versa? Most here have no desire to lean into their philosophy so why do they wish to lean into Audiogon’s? Can’t we all agree that we already picked our path? Those without a camp can pick the one they like and go there. If someone got banned from either site they likely had it coming based on the rules and norms of that particular site.

If people are listening to more music through Topping isn’t that great? Isn’t it also great if people are listening to more music through ARC, Wilson, Luxman, Devore, Audio Note, Shindo, Harbeth…
