Audio Research Ref 3 set display off/on.

Should Ref-3 save display illumination setting?
I set display off, then turn amplifier off, then on and display is on too.

Is it correct?
Every time amplifier is on display should be adjusted?

I am curious are there any tweaks/fixes which allow to remember display setting when amp is OFF?
The problem is that this display produces an audible noise, bzzzzz noise.I had Cary Audio SLP-03 and it remembered display setting on OFF.
I turn amplifier OFF, when I turn it ON, display is ON and it will never goes OFF until I switch it OFF on remote control.

So I have to set "Display" OFF every time I turn amp ON.
It looks very, very strange.
I think always powers up with the display on is a bad design.

Sorry what do you mean by saying "For kicks try setting the Ref 3 to mono and use the balance control.  Now THAT is a messed up situation."?
Unfortunately it does not work for me.
I tried every possible ways, no success, it does not save display setting when amp is off.

Please can someone with Ref-3 try this and confirm?

BTW I also have audible high frequency noise from display.
I have recorded it.

Yes, this noise from display. If display switched off - no noise.
I also found that the more lights on display the louder noise.
Сan anyone confirm the following statement?

The Ref 3 will remember the display when you turn it off via the power button.
If the display set to off and you press the power button to turn off the Ref3, then when you turn it back on via the power button then the display will only come back on during the mute cycle: after the mute cycle (45 seconds?) finishes, the display will turn back off again (or to wherever you set it).
