Audio Horizons TP 2.0 Preamplifier

Anyone famaliar with the manufacturer, and in particular
this pre amp.The credentials and testimonials seem
impressive. The advertised 10 day audition is appealing.

For Glory's benefit here is my "B list" of pre amps that fell in the wake of the AH.
Cary 98L
Aesthetix Calypso
Supratek Syrah
Lamm LL2
Have a good week everyone.
I third the power conditioner adventure, too many already, stick with your core business.Still happy with my 2.0n,now that there is a suggestion of a new top tier pre amp in the wind I don't have to concern myself with upgrading to a 2.1.Enjoy the rest of summer everyone.
Hi everyone,I'm looking for some insight into a technical glitch.I acquired an AH TP 2.0,upgraded to 2.1 status, for a friend. It apparently has a 60 cycle hum which is only noticeable when you stand by the unit and not in the listening position.Well you know how that goes it's driving him nuts.Any insight would be helpful and a pm would be fine.
Hi guys, anybody out there.Haven't spoken or heard from AH in a long time.Interested in the caps Sherod and look forward to your comments.
Just to be clear. When you say upgrade, are you referring to modifications for a 2.0/2.1 or an entirely new pre amp.
Sherod,
I'm just researching the Clarity caps you referred to.What is the exact model,it appears there are at least a dozen in the catalogue I was perusing. Thanx,Mark
That's one of assets I love about this pre amp, there's a lot of room to play around inside.I've decided to move forward with the power supply upgrade and clarity cap install.Just waiting for a final price.
In response to Clefhanger I've owned the Capri and the Dodd and can say in no uncertain terms that the AH is superior to both. Now the Cary SLP-05,that would be an interesting shoot out.
Hi Clefhanger, will send you a pm,I don't want to clutter the thread with my ramblings.
Sherod,
No I didn't,I will be raising that issue with Joseph when I send the unit to AH for a full upgrade,Clarity caps, power supply,Vishay resistors, transformers, etc.Talk soon.
Gandame,
Keep in mind that unless the 2.1R you are auditioning is already burned in it will take 300 to 500 hours of play time before it sings.
Well if it's just stock EH's,which I suspect, that's already saying a lot.Throw a quad of NOS Siemens in there and it will really sing.Looking forward to your post audition review.
Hi guys,I just acquired a second Audio Horizons TP 2.0n from one of the club members who will remain anonymous at this time. This particular unit, in addition to the install of Clarity caps also has the larger transformer, power supply and a Furtech pc plug.Other tweaks engineered into this particular unit make up what I believe has been called harmonic realignment. The quad tube complement of Siemens CCa's is the same employed in my original AH so no changes there.
I'm now on day 3 now and I can tell you that the word floated by Sherod in descrbing the sound as "relaxed" is on point.
Bass is deeper and more well defined and there is that extra level of detail which provides a deeper richer musical experience. Those are my original impressions I will post additional comments after more listening sessions. And for those of you wondering what happened to my original 2.0, it was sold to a fellow Canadian who has been following this thread for awhile. He's replacing a Bryston BP-20,I think he's in for a pleasant suprise.
Hi guys,
Trust most have seen the 50% off promo sale on mods being offered by Joseph.Fortunately I waited to do the "cv" upgrade,Clarity caps,Vishay resistors, harmonic re alignment(I love that term)My question is this,AH is also offering the install of line balancing out transformers for $550(ouch)and input transformers at $350,no discounts are being offered on these mods.Has anyone done this transformer mod, worth the money, consider doing both or just one and if so which one?
Since acquiring my second fully modified AH pre amp I rotated out the rca interconnects,Siver Audio 4.0's and rotated in the balanced version 6.0's.Pleased with the results, lower noise floor, blacker blacks.
I'm curious as to why that is,better isolation?Comments
Well for selfish reasons I'm behind the development of the 845 tube amp.The alternative would mean my speakers have to go.Thanx for sharing and don't get hooked on pain killers.
On a recent trip to Toronto I purchased a PC from a new player in cabling. The website is www.audiosensibility.com Steven Huang, the owner and master cable builder(what else would you call him)provided me with a tutorial on the science of enery transfer.I purchased his premium PC $385,cooked for a week. Results, more transparency and better bass articulation.
For the price it was an absolute steal.I've ordered a pair of his balanced testiment cables,$300.Will share my impressions thereafter.Happy Holidays everyone.
Cedar,
Ever give any thoughts to an exciting career with Audio Horizons as their pitch man.Happy New year guys.
Pursuant to Cedars comments I find that I am devoting more time and interest in PC's and interconnects.I had occasion to meet Steve Huang,a cable maker, what else would you call him, artisan cable maker? sensei?Anyway to my point.I spent several hours listening to a mano to mano tutorial on energy transfer and application in audio systems.I should add that Steve is a Metallurgist and a Chemical Engineer. From Cedars comments re Joseph's interest in cabling I sense both are on the same wavelength. For those who are interested, and I have no affiliation with Steve's products, his website is www.audiosensibility.com.I have acquired both a premium PC and balanced interconnects with more than favourable results. Now if I could just find a way to get Joseph and Steve together.
Many of the new pieces in the 2.2 I had installed in my 2.0n thanx to Pat.I'm hopeful that at some point I will have the luxury of being able to compare the two.I can't say enough positive things about the Clarity caps, they definitely provide an uptick in performance.
I'm in the 845 camp.Having said that I'm just pleased that Joseph continues to move forward with new and innovative products.Enjoy the weekend everyone.
Hi guys,it's been awhile.Recently acquired a quad of 6H23 Russian military tubes.Manufactured in a collective factory in Kaluga, not Kahula(joke)they are a drop-in replacement for the 6922 tube.Sonically they are as good as my Siemens ECC88's but do not have the finesse of a CCa.For something different and everyday use they're a perfect fit.
I don't pay any more attention to the motherhood statement "sounds better than pre amps costing several thousand dollars more" than I do "he's the best man for the job" without disclosing who the other candidates were.
No Sherod I did not sell my original AH,it was a second unit that I had acquired for comparison purposes.I have since sold that unit to a member who has the AH DAC and he's loving it.
Does anyone have any more information on Josephs' development of an amplifier line?
I see Josephs new 845 tubed SET amp in two versions is in production.Who's gonna be first,I nominate Sherod.
Hi guys,
Not to take this thread in a different direction,I just want to canvass opinions on Josephs new product, the RTS coupler.
Flip me a pm if you're so inclined.Enjoy the holiday weekend.
Hi guys,
Mark here, visit the Canadian equivalent of audiogon.www.canuckaudio.com.Last week there was a trio of CCa's for $225.Also,ECC88 gold pins and Amperex come up from time to time.If you see something you like let me know and I'll ship them to you from my MI address.
Sherod, just wanted to make sure you're still reading this thread.Best of the New Year.
