It may not be the fault of your smartphone. However, some lower-end Android phones (even today) tend to have a lot noise and unfavorable measurements. I would recommend looking up the smartphone you have for audio quality. GSMArena is a great source. If not them, some other site should have some detailed measurements.
For unidirectional (only facing 1 direction) use a lavalier mic.
And omnidirectional is all directions...
Binaural recording is going to be expensive...
Audio Technica makes excellent microphones. If you’re just looking for basic clip on mics, those can be had for very little money.
