Are audiophile speakers turn on for single women?

I recently purchased a pair of speakers that I showed to a non-audiophile female friend of mine. She said they looked beautiful and asked how much they cost. When I told her, her jaw dropped. She then asked if I was using them to pick up hot chicks. Hmm...I told her the only people who get turned on by my audiophile speakers are balding middle-aged men. She had a laugh, but I wondered if anyone tried to impress a girl with his stereo system. High end is a male dominated hobby like sports cars. So have you found a woman who was turned on by your system. I have had no such look. I just get blank stares when I talk about my hobby to women.

This thread is too funny - women for the most part do not care at all and really think it is a waste of money.
When you are initially dating , they may think it is cool (or so they say) that all changes once you make the commitment - in most cases.

They find ways to spend that extra money for that upgrade - oh on any number of home improvement stuff.
I think some of the posters are fooling themselves in thinking this is a turnon - keep dreaming. The only turn on that would be is if you sell your 30K wilsons and buy her a gift with it.
I think what we have here, are some lonely(no offense and it is not a general statement):o) audiophiles who have spent big $$ in Audio gear (much of the high priced gear reviewed in Abs. Sound and Stereophile)and have made that their priority - rather then going on a vacation to a resort or cruise they use that $$ for the next speaker cable upgrade. Then wonder damn I wonder if that MIT or Tranparent filter Box would look cool hanging next to my Magico Mini's and hope that when they do get that girl home
She'll say what is that - it is so cool.
Audiophile responds by saying - cool huh, speakers cost 22K and cable and cool box 8K. Hey lets go out to dinner - but lets take your car cause my 20 year old SAAB with 200K miles on it does not have the AC working and has a loud klang sound when going up to speed. Do you prefer TGI Fridays or Chili's ?

Sorry :o)I just had to. Much had to do with the guy who wrote into Abs. sound on priorities for an audiophile.
Grab a lawnmower, rake, edgetrimmer, weedwhacker - grab a bucket and water some Meguires car wash, then wash her car. Show her you can move more then just biasing the tubes and changing out a CD -and show you have some amount of physical fitness and not look like these Audio reviewers. No offense.

Believe me, that will turn them on a lot more then justifying to them a 20K purchase of Magico Mini's and CAry SLP-98, CAD-120 with the tubes glowing and nice meters.
Being single (married now for 5) for virtually 15 + years of my audiophile life that seemed to work a bit more with my dates then a new pair of speakers.

I'm just sayin.
:o)
Sure, they care about the look of it so it matches the window treatments.
But I don't think this should be confused as a "turn-on".
Now since you bought the NAD for her that is great - I gave my wife some Epos speakers....which is about to go on Audiogon becuase she is really not interested anymore in the idea of that 2nd system.

I can say that during my time being single - not a one thought my system was a turnon, let alone the speakers

BTW - my interpretation is you are not living together. If you ever do, or exchange the I do's -
Try this exercise :o) - come home one day and say, "honey I would like to max out my (no our) credit card and purchase some 20K Wilson speakers (you know the cheaper speakers that Absolute sound reviews), with the pretty paino gloss finish.
Also that money we were saving for our vacation and kitchen renovation will have to go on hold for 5 years or so as we pay off the speakers and the 10% interest". It may be longer as I may need to purchase another AMp to monoblock it to drive those babies better...can you please move your grandmother's antique table to the other room or put it in storage so I have more floorspace"?
I am saying most of this very light hearted by the way, please take this as conversation...but i don't think I am that far off base.
That's funny.:o) I think we should add "mysterious woman from the Ukraine who appreciates sound quality, loves music and is not looking for that golden oppurtunity to be a US citizen and not leave said new hubby, taking HALF of his possesions" :o)Which may or may not include those sexy speakers that made her fall in love oops LUST with said hubby in the first place....
Hi Jazzybs - hmmm not easy, try hanging out at concerts or live music events and you will have a better avenue to meet women who appreciate music (not to be confused with giving the green light in spending 25K on Boulder Monoblocks and 25K Wilson's). I met my wife at what is called "First Friday" each month where they close down a block downtown and have some hard jazz groups perform - draws a pretty big crowd.
In my case it was a plus when she listened to the system with her favorite artists...
but to be honest I had bunch of other priorities I was looking for in a girl then one "liking" my stereo.
