Sonically, the original DAC3 sounded darker and more recessed in the midrange than the DAC3mkII. The mkII is more open and lively. Noticebly better sound.
Mike I really have nothing to say,other than I got the Dac-3 myself and I remember once I took mine to a nearby dealer for retube and the owner of the store remarked that is a fine Dac ,but the mk2 is even better,actually the store owner had the mk2 home.
