I was in the same boat a couple of months back--just got my first flat screen, and I still use tubes too. I ended up getting this:

It works well.

I double checked and I believe tls49 is correct. The TV is a Sony KDL-50W800C and the manual talks about HDMI to receiver using ARC, but it is an HDMI in, not out. There is a digital audio out (optical) so I can use the FiiO that dbtom2 recommended Sorry for all of the confusion, it should be obvious that I am not up to speed with current technology - hell I still use tubes :) |
Here's a link to a recent thread from here that talks about an HDMI adapter: https://forum.audiogon.com/discussions/new-discovery-getting-the-oppo-dsd-output-to-a-dac?highlight=... Good luck! |
I am assuming your TV has HDMI INPUTs only. Does it also have HDMI outputs? I’ve used these for both TV and Apple TV optical out with some success: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005K2TXMO?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s... There are a few well-reviewed DACs with HDMI input/output. Essence makes one I’ve been considering. Hope it helps. |
