AN UPDATE : DYNACO PAT-4... Pre-amp volume knob modification

As you know from my previous post,
I was asking about a volume control knob that someone installed in  place of the pre-amp's  Input Jack.
I now know the knob  was used to regulate the volume on Output 1 .
Why would someone need to install this volume control knob in place of Input Jack ???
I hooked the unit to output 1 ( there is an output 1 and output 2 )
Output 1 regulates the volume.
Now I would like to know if anyone knows what the knob  is for.
Thanks

Source volume control on the fly.. I posted it was probably for a Reel to Reel and recording from another source, like Vinyl or another RtR.
Gain control in any case. Source matching...

That is most probable but all is speculation.
All you can do is find various hookup combos until you figure it out.
We can't.
OP is that main out? if you have two pairs of mains output, and a volume control on one. I suggest it was for bi amping horizontally and controlling the lows and highs on the fly... or one pair for sub duty, the other full range.  There are a few things you could do.  The fact is you can only go DOWN in volume and up to the maximum of the main volume control..

Like I said good for bi amping, when one anp it to hot for the app..
