Aesthetix Janus Sig: Noisy Phono Tubes

Greetings fellow audiophiles. My Janus Sig produces a lot of white noise in the Phonostage. The manual suggests this is caused by noisy tubes. I’ve been trying to contact Aesthetix, but to no avail. They are in Moorpark, CA, and I fear they may have fallen victim to the wildfires.

The phono section uses quad 12AX7LP (long plate), 2 12AX7 and 2 6922 or equivalent. Does anyone have a recommendation on the best tubes for this unit? Thank you -David

Looks like they were impacted. See below.

What to Know

  • The Mountain Fire broke out in the Moorpark and Camarillo areas of Ventura County.
  • Flames fanned by strong winds quickly spread to 132 structures, including homes.
  • Firefighters said several people were hospitalized with injuries.

A brush fire quickly grew to nearly 20,000 acres in the hills above Moorpark and Camarillo in Ventura County.

The Mountain Fire, reported around 9 a.m. Wednesday off the 118 Freeway near Balcom Canyon and Bradley roads, resulted in several injuries and forced evacuations in the communities northwest of Los Angeles. Evacuations were ordered as flames spread from brush to several homes.

Thank you for all of the concern.  While we have been impacted by power outages and employee absences, we have not been directly affected by the fires in Southern California.  None of our homes have been lost, thankfully.

What brand tubes did your phono stage come with?

My Io phono stage (purchased in 2006) came with a set of Sovteks and for the V1/V2 they were 12AX7LPS. The first stage in these phono amps are the most critical for low noise tubes. The tubes may have tested low noise, but they may have drifted from specification after a period of time, resulting in noise. Sometimes, this can occur in a short period, which is rare. I had direct experience with this scenario and replaced with a different set of tubes and voila, no more noise.

Would recommend replacing the V1/V2 stages if so configured with the exact tubes in low noise/low microphonic from either Aesthetix or a reputable dealer.
