I'm confused - so does the HTS 1 have "analog" pass thru to the various connected analog devices (CD player, etc) or is the A - to - D conversion?
A Smart Buyer building a HQ HT w/multi ch SACD
Hello to the Audiogon used market buyer looking to build a high quality up to date HT setup using a "SO CALLED ABSOLETE CLASS A PROCESSOR" and still obtaining full capability for multi channel SACD/DVDa. My buyer was very smart and saved thousands while maintaining one of the very best sounding A/V processors ever produced that most used buyers OVER LOOKED and passed up purchasing ONLY because the older CLASS A processor did not have a multi ch analog input for use with a new SACD/DVDa player. The processor my buyer choose was a HARD SELL that no one was willing to purchase for it's very cheap reselling price ONLY because the processor did not have a multi ch analog input and also A to D it's 2ch analog inputs... The processor is a KRELL HTS-1. A 6000 dollar retail 5.1 A/V processor that had a super good CLASS A rating when first introduced to the market back in 1999. Even today the KRELL HTS-1 without SACD capability sounds the same as the new 8000 retail HTS 7.1 with SACD capability... In fact the ONLY difference between a new $8000 retail Krell 7.1 HTS and the HTS-1 5.1 is the 2 UN necessary 2 more rear channels, a room correction chip which is used for a room with bad acoustics which anyone with any real knowledge is not going to be building an expensive HT set in a room with bad acoustics unless they are inexperienced,, and the BIGGIE,,, the capability of multi ch SACD/DVDa... the experienced audiophile knows he will not need any additional DSP processing using a BAND-AID Room Correction Device when building an expensive high quality HT or straight 2ch music system,, the knowledgeable experienced audiophile knows it's the written law and the 1st commandment to start off with a room that has GOOD ACOUSTICS and thus no need at all for any added DSP processing using a cheap on-board built in room correction device and screwing up the seamless smoothness of the 20k to 20khz FREQ RESPONSE that you get when using a room with good acoustics and the minimalist approach with the choice of using a complete chain of high quality components... The recipe for obtaining audiophile quality sound.. IN FACT the Krell HTS-1 5.1 is one of the very best sounding performing HT processors ever produced... I cannot say the same for all KRELL components but KRELL did a great job on the 1st gen HTS and it's sound is still CLASS A and will embarrass most all and every processor ever made Today or yesterday at any price and at any latest up to date so called greatest feature filled HT processor including a brand new $8000 retail HTS 7.1. The plain fact is that NO ONE is going to knock the sound of a Krell HTS-1. It's a great clean smooth open big wide deep slightly favorably forward sounding HT processor that sounds very good and lives up to being a CLASS A rated machine... NO ONE WOULD BUY A USED HTS-1 ONLY BECAUSE IT DOES NOT HAVE A 5.1 ANALOG INPUT FOR USE WITH MULTI CH OR 2CH SACD/DVDa.... A Krell HTS 5.1 is selling used for as little as 1200 to 1500 dollars..... WHAT if the HTS-1 did have a 5.1 analog input.... WOW what a STEAL that would be to have one of the very best sounding A/V processors ever produced for a MERE 1200 to 1500.... What would you all say a brand new processor would sell for that has the CLASS A sound and build of the HTS-1 5.1 and with multi ch SACD capability.... KRELL SAYS 8000 retail and can sometimes be found from a questionable unauthorized on-line dealer for 4500 to 6000 or Krell will offer you a trade up to a new 7.1 (that looks cheaply made with a 17in CASE not even a real faceplate look, to me and many others as looking ugly and cheap).. for a whopping 4000 plus the HTS-1 trade in.. Thats a whopping total cost of 10,000 to end up with a processor that sounds the SAME but has SACD capability,,,,, GO SCRATCH MY ASS KRELL!!!!!!!! You advertised the HTS-1 when new with A UPGRADE PATH,,,, some upgrade path Mr Krell... MSB can upgrade your HTS-1 to SACD capability for a MERE $395.... GOOD ONE KRELL
