Thanks for your comments here, everyone.I hadn't considered the Class D's because they are "supposed to be" less musical than A's or A/B's.  Q Audio in Cambridge carries Anthem, so maybe I will stop in and take a listen.I think what I am most like...

I should add that I have also tried a Schiit Vidar as the power amp.  A very nice, very capable amp, fits in the required space, but it didn't seem to really wake the OW's up, if that makes sense.It seemed cleaner than the Rotel, but the Rotel see...

i will add one additional point to frogman's excellent comment:professional musicians don't always make a whole lot of money.  good gear ain't cheap.

sorry, you are correct, the quicksilver uses 12at7's.I do not need mono, or balance control.  fwiw, I don't need phono or a remote, either, if that affects anyone's comments.thanks for the comments so far, much appreciated!
